The Summit is a new retirement housing tower planned for the South Hill has been on our radar as a major local construction project for sometime now. But, after a lot of planning and even a re-design of the building, the project is finally beginning.
The Summit will be an all new 11 story high rise tower to be built by Rockwood Retirement Communities and will be connected at the main floor to Rockwood's existing 7 story " The Ridge" apartment building also on the same South Hill campus.
That campus is located at 2903 E. 25th Ave. and along with The Ridge also includes a health and wellness center and Forest Estates, a development of single family homes and duplexes also open exclusively as retirement housing.
At the new high rise, The Summit, construction is to start now with demolition and site work. As the schedule stands now the new apartments at The Summit are to open in early 2016. In all the new building will cost Rockwood about $41 million.
The Summit building will contain 11 floors with 65 apartments, many of which are already considered sold. Apartments in The Summit range from 900 square feet to 1,970 square feet with the top two floors considered penthouses with units there ranging from 1,050 square feet to 2,210 square feet. Residents of The Summit will also be able to take advantage of all the many amenities available on the Rockwood South Hill Campus. The neighboring building The Ridge will also receive some renovations as part of the massive construction project.
Among the features of The Summit will include a new chapel, library, cultural center, theatre, multiple dining venues including a new bistro, rooftop lounge, fitness center and a underground parking facility.
