New medical office building to be built on the Lower South Hill

Another new building is coming soon to the Lower South Hill. Plans call for a new structure to be built on a site immediately to the east of a newly constructed Horizon Credit Union branch at 613 S. Washington.

A building that's on that site now, and was formerly used by Horizon will be demolished. No tenant has been named for the newly constructed building but we do know it will have a medical office use and should be complete in early 2021. Construction will be done with Baker Construction & Development acting as the general contractor and design work done by Bernardo Wills Architects PC.

Once complete the new building will be a 23,000 square foot building with two stories. We'll keep an eye on this project as it progresses.

Established just 3 years ago in Logan, Utah, Crumbl Cookies has baked up to be a quite the chain of bakeries. Now with over 50 locations in 11 states, they have an aggressive expansion plan that included a new location that opened over in Missoula about 2 months ago and several others. And, soon they will expand to our area with a new location coming soon to Coeur d' Alene.

The company recently leased a 1,617 square foot space, nearby Costco at 3524 N. Government Way in Coeur d' Alene. We inquired with their corporate office and we're told they don't have an opening date as of yet, be will be watching an grand opening / free cookie day announcement in the coming months. Colin Conway and Cheryl Klein of Kiemle Hagood represented the landlord in leasing the space.

Crumbl Cookies locations serve about a dozen regular cookie flavors in addition to four specialty cookies that change each week. As of the time I am writing this the specialty flavors include a Sour Patch Kids cookie, Gingerbread cake cookie and more.

The cookies aren't the only thing that's unique at Crumbl Cookie stores either. Their locations provide also provide cookie delivery service and are open till Midnight Mon-Sat. . And, for parties and events they also offer catering with a 50 cookie minimum. Contact the store for more info after they open.

The company is opening a bar & bistro in Downtown Spokane. The new business will be called at 180 Bar & Bistro and will be located at 180 S. Howard. They say 180 Bar & Bistro will be a " fun sandwich and coffee shop by day and a cozy bar by night " .

In a recent newsletter Bozzi Media identified that the menu will be built by Delectable Catering & Events, which is a catering company they already operate. They also say it will be open Mon, Tues and Wed 11a-3p and 11a-late on Thurs., Fri. and Sat. .

Large mixed used development in the works on Flora Rd in Spokane Valley

In the coming months watch for a large new development to come to an already growing section of Spokane Valley. The project is set to rise on an approximately 5.6 acre vacant lot at 1215 N. Flora Rd., in between I-90 and the Mission / Indiana round-a-bout.

Plans call for 2 five story apartment buildings to be built on the site, with construction to be done in two phases. Once the project is fully built out, the site will include about 290 apartments and a row of commercial space, about 9000 square feet in all, facing Flora Rd.

The commercial space is already being marketed for lease, we checked in on that portion and we're told they do have some prospective tenants they are working with there but nothing set just yet. The commercial spaces are demisable down to 2000 square feet and are open to retail, restaurant and a few other uses. For info on leasing contact Devin Mecham with NAI Black at 509-622-3546 or visit http://naiblack.com

The commercial side of the project will likely be completed first with estimated delivery being sometime in the Spring 2021. I'm told construction was to have actually started this month but due to the Stay at Home orders they have been somewhat delayed. The first phase of apartments will be done shortly after, the first phase will include 1 five story building with 141 market rate rental units. The second phase will be build direct behind the first building.

Fortune Design & Development, LLC is the company behind the project with design work being done by Fusion Architecture.

Main Market Co-op - Small Business of the Moment

We're continuing our " Small Business of the Moment " feature to recognize some local businesses who might need some extra love. I ask that when you see these posts that you consider shopping the businesses I mention.

Today's is Main Market Co-op, located in Downtown Spokane at 44 W. Main . The business relied largely on downtown workers and convention traffic but with those groups are now almost non-existent temporarily.

They are an awesome little grocery store and even though they are located Downtown there is still easy to find free parking next to their building.

They describe themselves as a member owned, locally driven grocery store and Spokane's only local food co-op. The store offers a grocery department and wellness area in addition to meats, specialty cheeses, produce, deli, bakery and good selection of craft beer and wine. Main Market Co-op is also a great source for locally made and grown items.

Please join me in shopping at our Small Business of the Moment for this moment, Main Market Co-op. They are also now offering curbside pickup during the week sending them an order via email and for more information about the Co-op check out their website http://mainmarket.coop

Cosmic Cowboy Grill re-opens for take out and delivery in Downtown Spokane

Cosmic Cowboy Grill had only been open in Downtown Spokane for a matter of weeks before they unfortunately had to temporarily shut down and furlough staff due to Gov. Inslee's shelter at home order. In fact even their Grand Opening celebration had to be postponed, not what one expects to have happen when opening a new restaurant.

But, there is very good news, Cosmic Cowboy Grill is now back open in Spokane!

Courtesy photo used with permission

They are now serving take away orders at the restaurant and delivery via Doordash and Grub Hub. This is was made possible largely thanks to the business being approved to US Small Business Administration's Paycheck Protection Program. This means not only a delicious new place to grab lunch or dinner, but a group of hard ( but safely ) working staff getting back to work.

Cosmic Cowboy Grill can be found on the ground floor of River Park Square at 822 W. Main. The Spokane location is a second store for the business which has operated a location in Coeur d' Alene for the last few years. Named for " the original Cosmic Cowboys " Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. The locally owned and operated restaurant has dishes that combine traditional grilled meat favorites with gourmet vegetarian dishes. Additionally vegan and gluten free options are also offered.

Ordering is available online via the Cosmic Cowboy Grill website at http://cosmiccowboy.com or on the Doordash / Grub Hub platforms.

Thai Bamboo is in the process of creating a new restaurant for their South Hill customers. The local chain of Thai restaurants will open later this year in a new "flagship" location at 2215 E. 29th, adjacent to the Grapetree Village development. It will replace a smaller older location not far away at 2926 E 29th , in all Thai Bamboo operates four locations, 2 in Spokane, 1 in Spokane Valley and 1 in Coeur d' Alene.

Not an exact rendering of the new South Hill Thai Bamboo, but an example of their restaurants style as provided by them.

Despite current statewide construction hold ups, they say they are definitely still planning to open this new location. It will be similar in scale to the North Spokane and CdA locations with 7400 square feet, including a full lounge, banquet room, large dining space and outdoor patio.

The new restaurant is valued at $1.2 million according to building permits with TW Clark Construction acting as the general contractor and design work done by Russell Page Architects.

Here are some area businesses that are getting creative to stay strong...

Recently I put a call out on our social media looking for local businesses who are doing new and creative things to get through these trying times. I want to mention as many as possible that responded, in addition to a few more I've heard of myself recently. So, here we go...

Lohman's Home Furnishings

Lohman's is temporarily closed but they have a unique story as they are a very new business, one that I don't think many even knew about yet. Lohman's Home Furnishings opened in March inside Spokane Valley Mall and obviously didn't plan for anything like a pandemic to strike in their first days open.

Please, if you're looking for furniture after the stay home order is lifted look them up. Unlike many furniture stores they are locally owned and operated and sell living room furniture, dining sets, recliners, beds , entertainment centers and home accents.

In the mean time, check out their website at http://lohmanshomefurnishings.com

Restaurants!

There are now several resources for where to find restaurants open for take out and delivery in the Spokane area. Among them are Shawn O'Donnell's American Grill & Pub , Cole's Bakery & Cafe, Hogwash Whiskey Den and Italian Kitchen.

Many restaurants in our area are still open doing take out, curbside pick up or delivery. And, while there are several choices for food delivery in the Spokane area please keep in mind the local choice, Treehouse Food Deliveries. Check out what delicious food they can bring to you at http://www.treehousespokane.com

Wander Spokane

Speaking of food, did you know there is a local tour company in Spokane that does food, beer and wine tours in addition to urban wilderness hikes. They offer a unique service that helps both locals and visitors alike.

Currently they are temporarily not operating tours due to the pandemic but I encourage you to look them up as these tour groups will help bring business back to some of our city. And, it can get you out of the house once it is okay to do so. Check them out online at http://www.wanderspokane.com

Greenacres Vendor Mall

Located in Spokane Valley at 16814 E. Sprague says they are " frantically building ecommerce sites " to support their businesses. They are in a unique place, being a vendor mall with over 14,000 square feet of space they are actually home to over 200 "mini-business ". They are currently doing what they can by selling via their social media, including offering gift cards.

Check them out when all this over, they also host flea markets during the warmer months, so please send them some love. And, check out their website at- http://greenacresvendormall.com

Up North Distillery and The Bee's Knees Whiskey Bar

Post Falls based Up North Distillery is still up and running with spirits available to be picked up curbside at their facility, which can be found at 846 N. Boulder Ct ( just off of Seltice ) in Post Falls. For more info, check out their website at http://www.upnorthdistillery.com

The same owners also opened a cool new whiskey bar not long before this occurred in Hayden. That bar is called the The Bee's Knees Whiskey Bar and can be found at 324 W. Lancaster Suite E. They are planning to do cocktails to go on Fridays and an online whiskey club.
For more info, check out their website at http://www.beeskneeswhiskeybar.com

Workstory Photography

Spokane based Workstory Photography is doing product photography to produce an high quality image to allow businesses to sell online or for better promotional materials. They say they can meet 100% white background requirements for Amazon sellers.

This is in addition to all the other services they already provide, check them out online at http://workstoryphotography.com

River City Kitchen

Spokane is home to many independent small food service businesses, and I suspect more are coming if some of the laid off workers decide to start their own businesses. River City Kitchen is here to help those businesses, they are a commercial kitchen that is located inside the Spokane Inter-modal Center in Downtown Spokane.

Not only are they there to provide the space and equipment needed, they are suspending rent payments for their tenants through April, May and June at least.

For more info, check out their website at http://rivercitykitchen.com

The Magic Lantern

Local art house theater The Magic Lantern at 25 W. Main is still showing movies. No, not in their theater but via streaming service rentals on their website http://magiclanternonmain.com . Funds raised by the rentals go back to support their theater and it's employees.

Ramada at Spokane Airport

Many of us are working at home now, but sometimes some work needs privacy or an important call demands time to be away from kids. The Ramada at Spokane Airport, which can be found at 8909 W. Airport Dr. is now offering a " telecommunication day rate " to allow guests to rent rooms from 7a-7p for $50.

And, so much more...

These aren't all ether, Spokane is strong and creative community, these are just the ones that either reached out to me recently or one's I could think of deserving a mention. If you're a business owner who wants to tell me what your doing and possibly get into future posts on this site reach out now via email inlandbusiness@yahoo.com

Incrediburger & Eggs starts carry out in Coeur d' Alene, adapts to the new normal.

The restaurant industry has taken a huge hit over the last month, causing some to get creative. One such place adapting to this new take out and delivery only life is Incrediburger & Eggs.

Incrediburger & Eggs is a locally owned and operated quick casual restaurant that has it's main location in Downtown Spokane at 909 W. 1st Suite A, next to the Hotel Ruby. At the Downtown location they continue doing take out, curbside pick up and delivery via Grubhub. One can even purchase beer & wine to go with curbside orders (as per a temporary order allowing restaurants to do this).

But, the restaurant which is part of Chef Adam Hegsted's portfolio of bars and eatery's is branching out. A menu of Incrediburger & Eggs items will now be available in Downtown Coeur d' Alene! The items will be sold during operating hours at Honey Eatery & Social Club located 317 W. Sherman Ave. . Honey is another restaurant operated by Hegsted, and i'm told the Incrediburger items will be available for at least the duration of the social bans.

Incrediburger & Eggs also branched out not long ago with a new food truck. They have nicknamed the truck, Increditruck. The Increditruck and is parked and serving up burgers and more Wed-Sun 11-5 ( subject to change, check their social media for up to date info ) at 5004 E. Sprague, across from Costco and Auto Zone in Spokane Valley.

If you aren't already familiar with Incrediburger & Eggs, for the most part their name says it all. They are a locally owned and operated quick casual restaurant with a large selection of delicious burgers, egg sandwiches, fries, tots and adult beverages made using as much local products as possible.
