Rodda Paint anchored plaza going up on E. Sprague

In Feb. 2019, a large overnight fire destroyed the Spokane Valley location of Rodda Paint in the 6800 block of E. Sprague. Afterwards the business set up shop in a smaller location at 409 N. Thierman Rd. Suite B, where they are still open for business as of today.

But, Rodda will soon be returning to that same Sprague Ave. location as construction started recently for a new multi-tenant building at 6818 E. Sprague, with Rodda Paint anchoring that new structure.

The new building will be 15,000 square feet and is planned to be ready sometime in the Spring of 2021. The largest portion of the building will be for the new Rodda Paint store, which will be on the east side of the new development next to Bradley Rd. .The western side of the building will be 4 flex / retail bays at about 1,500 square feet each, or they could be combined into 6,000 square feet. No tenants are set for these spaces just yet, but they are now pre-leasing, and open to many types of businesses.

With phase 3 power, roll up doors planned as well ample parking and a highly visible location on Sprague, these spaces will surely fill up fast however. We'll keep and eye on this project as it develops to see what opens there.

If your interested in leasing space at this new building check Goodale & Barbieri's website http://www.g-b.com or contact Property Manager, Clayton McFarland at 509-344-2929 cmcfarland@g-b.com

A big format switch is coming very soon to the dial of Spokane radio stations. Local radio broadcasting company Legend Broadcasting, LLC is planning on ending the run of their classic rock station OZ 95.7 with a full re-brand / re-launch of the station as Spokane's first Spanish language radio station.

The new station will operate as Ke Buena 95.7 and is planned to switch sometime tomorrow, July 20th. We're told the station will broadcast Regional Mexican music and broadcasts from La Numero Network during the daytime hours and Erazno y La Chokolota in the PM hours.

95.7 is a translator re-broadcasting KYOZ 1330 AM, the signal is audible throughout the Spokane / Coeur d' Alene area. New restaurants on the horizon in our area

Some of the details about what eating out in a post-pandemic world will look like is still uncertain. But, there are plenty of sites and social media pages that will give you all the information and active debates about all of that. All, I will say if please wear a mask in public!!!

Instead I've chosen to use my little corner of the internet focus on the positive, the fact that new restaurants are actually still coming soon to the Spokane area! Below, are some of the ones I'm hearing about, it won't be a full list and I won't go fully in depth on them here but still a worthwhile glance.

If I miss something, feel free to tell me at inlandbusiness@yahoo.com . Additionally if you represent a restaurant, feel free reach out to me also and we can arrange sometime to promote your business!

As a dog lover I have to admit, I'm probably looking forward to Bark, A Rescue Pub the most out of any of the ones on this list. This new restaurant will be going into the historic Broadview Dairy building at 905 N. Washington and will feature a bar, menu of elevated pub food and dogs / cats in a separate area available for adoption via a partnership with the Spokane Humane Society. They will be opening this Summer.

Maganolia American Brasserie is still set to open very soon in on ground floor of the Hotel Indigo Spokane at 1st & Madison in Downtown Spokane. We recently posted some sneak peak pictures of this new restaurant that will serve what they are calling and " approachable French " menu.

Wooden City Spokane is to open as soon as this month at 819 W. Riverside in Downtown Spokane. This new restaurant is a second location of a restaurant from Tacoma and will serve " great drinks, comforting American cuisine and sincere hospitality. " We've been closely watching their social media posts and their food looks incredible!

Also planned to open within the next couple of months is Ponderosa Bar & Grill coming to the new development surrounding Barney's Harvest Foods grocery store at 11205 E. Dishman-Mica Rd in Spokane Valley. They describe their new restaurant as a hometown restaurant specializing in the comfort foods you know and love. Ponderosa is a project from the same owner as The Otis Grill in Otis Orchards.

12 String Brewing Co. is remodeling a new space at 12122 E. 1st in Spokane Valley to move their brewery to in the coming months. With the new larger space they plan a new food menu with craft pizzas and more.

New chains coming to The Y.... I try to promote local businesses first but many are anxiously waiting for Chick-fil-A and Chipotle to open later this year on Newport Hwy, just north of The Y.

The historic Commellini Estate in North Spokane now has a restaurant! With an Old World Italian inspired menu Travola Calda is now open on their property at 14715 N. Dartford. If you need more info I recommend reading a recent article in The Inlander at https://www.inlander.com/spokane/historic-commellini-estate-launches-old-world-inspired-italian-restaurant-tavola-calda/Content?oid=19948573

Speaking of articles from The Inlander, they also recently did a write up about Vieux Carre NOLA Kitchen, a new New Orleans inspired restaurant coming soon to Spokane's West Central neighborhood at 1403 W. Broadway. It is set to open sometime later this year.

And, now a few new restaurants I don't know as much about....

If you can help me fill in the gaps on these or give me a " hot tip " send me an e-mail at inlandbusiness@yahoo.com, if I get enough info from my readers I'll randomly draw at least one to receive a coffee gift card...

We're watching the property at 3323 N. Argonne Rd. in Millwood, as a recent liquor license filing shows a business called Stockwell's is planned to open there.

A new BBQ restaurant called Blaze BBQ appears to be planning to open at 13614 W. Sunset Hwy in Airway Heights. Per the address it seems to be the former Hong Kong Restaurant & Lounge building.

Long time Garland District business Kim’s Teriyaki closed down recently at 927 W. Garland. But if the City of Spokane business license filings are correct it will be replaced by a new place called Midori Sushi & Teriyaki, watching and waiting for more on this....

I love my readers! Recently I posted an article about the new strip mall at 10509 W. Aero Rd, on the West Plains. Only a couple of days later one of my alert readers sent me a picture of a coming soon sign there for a new restaurant called Taqueria Comalito . That sign is about all of found so far about this new restaurant however.

Stay tuned! I'm hoping to do another one of this lists for my readers in North Idaho soon, but I'll hint for those readers that a new pizza place is coming to Hayden, a froyo place with beer is also in the works and more! Big things for big times!

Demolition underway for new Olive Garden by Spokane Valley Mall

Apologies for the not as great photos, second photo is of the site as taken from the Valley Mall doors.

Crews have started working at a site adjacent to Spokane Valley Mall that will soon become a new Olive Garden restaurant. Demolition work is happening now and has removed the former Hong Kong Buffet restaurant building.

The new Olive Garden will open later this year in a new stand alone 7700 square foot building at 14742 E. Indiana. Keep watching this site for updates on this and other Spokane area construction projects.

Walls up for big expansion at Huntwood Cabinets in Liberty Lake

Despite all the negativity surrounding the economy, some companies are still growing and choosing to invest in the Spokane area. One such company is the locally based Huntwood Cabinets, construction crews are hard at work there on an expansion to their already 560,000+ square foot facility located at 23800 E. Appleway in Liberty Lake.

Walls recently went up for the new tilt-up concrete warehouse expansion that will be added on the western side of the current building. Plans call for a new 63,750 square foot space, a 5,000 square foot " open canopy structure" and an enlarged truck parking area. The expansion is planned to be built in phases, and what is currently under construction is phase one of two.

The expansion is being built with Baker Construction & Development acting as the contractor and design work being done by Bernardo Wills Architects PC, both of Spokane. No mention of how many new jobs this project will create.

Sweet Annie's Artisan Creamery to open a brick & mortar location in Liberty Lake

Sweet Annie's Artisan Creamery is already known around Spokane as a farmers market vendor and for their ice cream pint sales at a few select grocers'. The locally owned business is already known and enjoyed by many.

But, they are growing and will open an actual physical ice cream shop soon in Liberty Lake. The business is set to be a tenant of a new commercial building that is presently under construction at 1948 N. Harvest Pkwy, in the River District development ( directly across the street from Orchard Park ).

With the new space they will sell their ice creams that are produced using local ingredients, and they will also add sundaes and floats. Presently Sweet Annie's plans to open sometime in the later half of this Summer. Also, there are rumors that a coffee shop may also open in the same building but we are waiting on confirmation for that news.

New strip mall waiting for businesses near new Amazon Fufillment Center

New businesses and subdivisions are coming to the West Plains in record numbers. Several new building projects are going up all over this area but one hot spot seems to be the area surrounding the Medical Lake exit off of I-90.

With all this growth it would make sense to start seeing a push for new commercial projects. One new strip mall at 10509 W. Aero Rd is now completed to shell form and waiting for new businesses and maybe even a new restaurant or two to move in.

The new building is a little under 8000 square feet and has space for up to four businesses. On site surface parking is offered and one of the suites even has a drive thru lane. There is no news yet about what businesses will open here for sure but we checked in a few weeks ago and we're told there is interest and they are working with some businesses to take space here.

This new building is on a out lot of the larger Fairways Plaza development which has one fully occupied building and is directly across from the busy Petro Truck Stop / Starbucks complex. Planning is also underway for the future of the Fairways Plaza as the plans call to eventually building a new grocery store behind where this new building is and along Westbow Rd. , more commercial space is also likely in the future.

The new strip mall and the entire project is being marketed by Windermere Manito Commercial, if you own a business that might be interested in opening here contact Chris Bornhoft with Windermere at 509-599-6504 or chris@bornhoft.com

* This site is not affiliated with the project just announcing a new local building project.

A sneak peak of the new Hotel Indigo and Magnolia American Brasserie, opening later this month.

A new hotel and restaurant are opening soon in Downtown Spokane. After months of renovation the Hotel Indigo, located in former Otis Hotel building at 110 S Madison ( corner of Madison & First ) is nearing completion is now scheduled to open at the end of this month. And, we recently got a sneak peak look at the new space ( Thank you! )

The new hotel is a part of the growing Hotel Indigo brand from IHG that are a more hip, boutique style properties and highlight the regions they call home. And, that's true with the new Hotel Indigo here in Spokane as many unique murals portraying the history of Gonzaga University athletics can be found all around. Additionally, on each floors elevator lobby is a mock advertising mural of each of the previous hotels who once called the building home.

Before the renovation the building sat vacant for sometime but has history going back over 100 years as the building was built in 1911. And, the new hotel highlights that history at every turn, from re-purposed wood being used all over, mailboxes behind the front desk to the original stone tile floor in the lobby and a antique safe that was moved out of the buildings basement and more. Even some of the original room doors are used for decorative purposes on the walls of upper floor corridors. There is too much history in this building to share in one article, if you have an interest the history of our area this new hotel is a must visit.

But, the Hotel Indigo Spokane is also a very modern, very unique new hotel also. The hotel will feature 108 guest rooms with WiFi , valet parking, fitness center, business center and more. The property will also be pet friendly with dogs and cats welcome with a fee ( contact the hotel for up to date amounts ) .

Space for events will available with a meeting room and a banquet room adjacent to the restaurant that can be closed off for private functions. Contact the hotel for rental information.

Magnolia American Brasserie is also opening!

It's not just the Hotel Indigo that's opening in the building. The front half of the ground floor will be a new eatery called Magnolia American Brasserie, which can be accessed without having to go through the hotel as it will have a dedicated entry in the front along First Ave. . Magnolia is currently set to open at the same time as the hotel and will feature an " Approachable French " menu and a full bar. The menu is still be perfected but count on us to check it out sometime after they open.

We are very excited for this new addition to an evolving part of Downtown Spokane, it's worth checking out. If you'd like more info or to make reservations at Hotel Indigo, find them online at-

Chipotle Mexican Grill to open in North Spokane

Fans of the Chipotle Mexican Grill chain will be excited to know that Spokane will soon be home to a second location of the restaurant.

Chipotle will remodel the one suite of the building at 9602 N. Newport Hwy, replacing the Northpointe Sweeto Burrito location. The other half of the building is a local restaurant called Nudo Ramen House who assures us via social media that they have no plans to close or re-locate.

The new restaurant will occupy about 5750 square feet of space and will open in early 2021. The California based chain of fast casual Mexican restaurants has about 2700 locations worldwide, Spokane's only other location is just north of Downtown at 930 N. Division. There was also a location in Coeur d' Alene that existed for a short time but closed in late 2018 along with dozens of other stores at that time.

For more info on Chipotle Mexican Grill, visit http://chipotle.com

Work starts for new commercial development on US 2 near Airway Heights

After months of waiting, crews from Baker Construction & Development are now busy with site work and even some early foundation work for a new commercial development off of US 2, just east of Flint Rd. and the Hilton Garden Inn hotel by Airway Heights ( technically within the city limits of Spokane )

What is being worked on now is the first phase of a larger project and in the current phase, three new businesses will open here. An access road will be built on the back portion of the parcel to the new businesses which will be built abutting the highway.

The businesses opening there will include a Bruchi's restaurant in addition to locations for Bush Car Wash and Roasters Coffee. This will be the first locations for Bush Car Wash and Roasters Coffee in the Spokane market as both are based in the Tri-Cities.

In a future phase the back half of parcel will be built out with at least a couple more buildings likely including a strip mall like retail structure and office space. This portion does not have an construction date or even a set plan as it is still " in the works ". We will continue to watch this project as it advances.
