Riverfront Park's Fountain Cafe hoping to open for Bloomsday

While it may not exactly be Tavern on the Green, it is Spokane's version of it, Construction and set up work at the Fountain Café in Riverfront Park is nearing completion and the small new in-park restaurant hopes to open in less then month and just in time for the crowds that will pass by the site next month for Bloomsday.

The Fountain Café is located on park land direct adjacent to the Rotary Fountain at the Howard St. entry to Riverfront Park. Fountain Café can also be easily found as it is only a couple of blocks east of the River Park Square shopping mall. The Fountain Café is the first new building that has been built in the park in several years and is a similar but newer concept to the Parks Dept.'s Park Bench Café in Manito Park.

The Fountain Café is a full restaurant with outdoor dining and is a replacement to the former Carosel Grill which was a temporary food service trailer nearby the site. The new Fountain Café will offer traditional American menu items but with some new more health friendly choices. Also the café will also offer a local beer and wine selection.

The new space also offers something the Howard St. entrance to the park as been in great need of, a public restroom. For the last couple of summer season's the City of Spokane Parks Department has parked a mobile restroom trailer nearby but the new permanent facilities are a big improvement.
