Spokane Public Radio to move to new Monroe St. location

Spokane Public Radio, the local 3 station NPR affiliate has put plans in the works to relocate to a historic building on further north on N. Monroe St. in Spokane.

Spokane Public Radio had been located in smaller, upstairs, quarters elsewhere on N. Monroe ( 2319 N. Monroe ) . But the radio station's management has now purchased the former firehouse at 1229 N. Monroe , by the corner of Monroe & Sharp.

Spokane Public Radio acquired the new structure thru a benefactor for $575,000 and will renovate the building entirely with exact plans to be released this spring. The plans however do intend to create space for both the station's offices and studios as well as a small performance space. The new building will be sizable larger then the current location.

The plan calls for Spokane Public Radio to move into the new building during the Summer of 2015. The new building also is currently home too two business tenants who will also relocate out of the building within the next few months.

Spokane Public Radio has originally planned to move into Downtown Spokane with a plan to purchase the building at 19 W. Pacific, but backed out that plan after the economy worsen and decided to opt for the less expensive 1229 N. Monroe St. building.

Spokane Public Radio is the Inland Northwest's affiliate of National Public Radio with three stations, those stations include-

KPBZ 90.3 FM - NPR's Remix format with a variety news and talk show produced by other NPR affiliate's.
