Almost all of Saranac Commons is now open for business

19 W. Main is one of the coolest new places in Downtown Spokane. Located in the heart of what some describe as " Little Portland " 19 W. Main is the site of Saranac Commons.

Saranac Commons, if you don't already know is a bit of a market of small businesses, many geared towards food. It's not huge but it is a huge step in the right direction for building up our locally owned and operated business scene.

And, now after some delays with roofing,etc... the businesses that call Saranac Commons home are now open and ready for customers. Here is a look at what all can be found at Saranac Commons-

Mediterrano

Just opened a few days ago, Mediterrano is a unique restaurant with a delicious menu of dishes from Mediterranean nations. The menu consists of starters, sandwiches , burgers, grain bowls and yes, they make Gyros.

Everything is made fresh from the small space towards the front of building.

To my knowledge Mediterrano doesn't have a web site just yet. But they can be found on Facebook at-

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mediterrano/1560120770904953?fref=ts

Caffe Affogato

The business also sells tea and Italian Soda's , occasional live music is also available. Coffee lovers will defiantly want to add Caffe Affogato to their list of local businesses to check out.

Sun People Bed & Bath

The last local business to open for business at Saranac Commons will be Sun People Bed & Bath. The business will open very soon however, the estimated opening date is April 20th and hiring for this new shop has already begun.

Sun People Bed & Bath is a branch off of the now closed Sun People Dry Good retail shop that was over in the Spokane Public Market / Pacific Bridge building on W. 2nd .

The new Sun People opening at Saranac Commons will be a retail shop and will still continue to focus on environmentally sustainable merchandise. The only real difference will be that the new store will focus on the bed and bath side.

More to come soon as Sun People Bed & Bath opens up shop.

Also, Saranac Commons the building itself can now even be found online. Check out their new web site at-
http://saranaccommons.org/

There, you will also find a Google Map to find the building and even parking which IS NOT an issue to find.

Roast House Coffee's new tasting room opens April 2nd.

Roast House Coffee, a Spokane based craft coffee roaster is the first coffee company to bring the popular ModBar coffee system to Spokane. Roast House will use this " ModBar " at their new coffee tasting room opening very soon in the same building as their warehouse and production facilities.

The new tasting room will be primarily used for product tasting and training and not exactly geared as a full coffee shop with wifi, seating, etc... . Even though, the public is welcome to stop in and see what is available from Roast House Coffee at anytime during open hours.

Roast House Coffee and Roast House's new tasting room are both located at 423 E. Cleveland Ave.

NW Brew Gear opens in East Central Spokane

Recently on Inland Northwest Business Watch I posted about a couple of new beer growler filling businesses that have opened or are opening soon in our area. Totally forgetting about one important new storefront that actually sells said growlers.

My most sincere apologies to this new business and encourage everyone who loves Spokane's craft beer scene to pay a visit to the new NW Brew Gear.

NW Brew Gear is located a short distance off of E. Sprague Ave. at 25 N. Napa St. . NW Brew Gear sells both by wholesale and retail. They produce their own growlers and growler accessories with custom designs and logo work also available.

The business is locally owned and operated and has many different styles of growlers that are very cool and unique. They even sell a growler carrier called the brewhawler and their growlers come in a variety of colors.

If you don't want to commute to NW Brew Gear's new retail location, you can buy online via squareup.com . Their online store can be found at-

https://squareup.com/market/northwestbrewgear

New shopping center opening on Newport Hwy

Once the rumored site of a Texas Roadhouse restaurant, construction work is wrapping up on a new shopping center in North Spokane. The new center is going up at 9412 N. Newport Hwy and will feature four storefronts with one already leased as the anchor of the new building.

The center at 9412 N. Newport Hwy is surrounded by many other retail establishments / offices and restaurants. The building is directly in between the North Pointe Shopping Center and " The Y" on the east side of the busy roadway.

The building will be anchored by a new Sherwin Williams Paint Store with the other three spaces still available for lease. Leasing is being done by Kiemle & Hagood .

Work on this new building was done by Kilgore Construction of Colbert with architecture by Russell C. Page Architects PS of Spokane. The building offers 8,000 square feet of space, we will keep an eye out for new businesses opening here as we expect announcements coming soon.

The neighborhood around this new shopping center has been the location of many new business developments, both good and bad. Shakey's Pizza and a Hallmark store recently closed nearby, but a new hotel and Sketchers retail store are also coming soon nearby. And, perhaps even one day a Texas Roadhouse will open near there, but as of now there are no immediate plans for that chain there.

New business wanted for former Garland Liquor Store

The Garland District is a unique district in Spokane, filled to the brim with locally owned and operated retail shops, restaurants and bars. While I personally considered all of Spokane's neighborhood business districts special, Garland is a favorite of mine.

And, this spring a new large commercial vacancy has opened up in the heart of the district, just under a block away from the landmark Garland Theater.

The vacancy is the former Garland Liquor Store at 1022 W. Garland Ave. . And, with this new opening the district's business owners are seeking a new tenant that will bring additional life to the neighborhood. I'm told they are hoping to land a restaurant or grocery store. They are also hoping to stay away from another bar as the district is already home to 7 like establishments.

The building is empty and ready for a new business to move right in. 1022 W. Garland has good visibility from both Garland Ave. and N. Monroe and plenty of off street parking. The building may need some remodeling but if a lease we're too be signed soon a business may be able to open in time for the 2015 Garland Street Fair, which will be held on August 8th.

The building has 5808 square feet of space and is listed through Bill Duffy with Goodale & Barbieri. The space is available at $12.00 per square foot and would make an ideal new business location.

For more information leasing / opening a new business at 1022 W. Garland. Check this page, which includes a photo of the space-

Filling Station on 5th coming to Downtown CdA, other Growler fill shops coming

The next big business trend to hit the Inland Northwest may just be the Growler filling business. Over the last few months to Oregon based Growler Guys has set up shop here. Opening first in North Spokane at 9329 N. Newport Hwy and more recently on the South Hill at 1314 S. Grand Ave Suite 4. For more on The Growler Guys find them at- www.thegrowlerguys.com

The Filling Station on 5th is a venture of Scratch Bistro and will in fact be located in the suite at the back of Scratch's building. The new business will be in the same space as the now closed Scratch Creamery and Pizzeria.

The Filling Station on 5th will both sell and fill beer growlers as well as smaller to go pints of beer. They will feature 20 different beers on tap many of which being locally produced craft beers.

For more information on The Filling Station on 5th, find them online at- http://www.thefillingstationon5th.com/

And, over in Spokane....

We are also hearing a new business called Filt will be opening soon in the Garland District at 911 W. Garland Ave. Filt is belived to also be a growler filling business but we are still waiting to get more info as it is still in the process of opening.

Keep and eye out for more info, coming soon.

New restaurants coming to 829 E. Boone

829 E. Boone ( corner of Boone & Hamilton ) is perhaps better known as the 8,000 square foot multi-tenant building that took over the land that was David's Pizza near Gonzaga University. But it's also meant to provide Zags and Spokane's Logan neighborhood with a multitude of dining options.

The building, which is named the Clementine Center was developed by John Stockton and built by locally based Baker Construction. When it was completed a couple of years ago it was full of restaurant tenants, but quickly those numbers have started to dwindle.

Pizza Oven which was in suite A, closed citing a dispute over lack of payment from a general contractor. Noodle Works ( Suite B ) and Loco Dogz ( Suite C ) also closed up shop for unknown reasons ( Loco Dogz also closed their flagship store in Cheney ) . Leaving the new building kind of empty looking.

But all of that is about to change with these new restaurants leasing space in the 829 E. Boone Building-

 Joey's Taste of Chicago

Joey's will soon open their third store within the building. The restaurant also has locations at 9222 N. Newport Hwy in North Spokane and in Rathdrum.

The business is growing and gaining a bit of following in it's relatively short life. Joey's Taste of Chicago is a Chicago style hot dog restaurant. They are one of only a small few restaurants in the Inland Northwest using Vienna Beef hot dogs.

In addition to delicious hot dogs, Joey's Taste of Chicago also serves hot Italian Beef and Gyros. A liquor license is also in the works for their new location.

For more information Joey's Taste of Chicago find them online at-

http://www.joeyschicago.com/

Or via Facebook at-

https://www.facebook.com/joeystasteofchicago

Joey's Taste of Chicago also offers retail purchases of their hot dogs and condiments.

Sushi Sakai

After gaining a name as a Sushi restaurant in Spokane Valley, Sushi Sakai will soon leave the Valley for 829 E. Boone.

Sushi Sakai will close their location at 11520 E. Sprague Ave and relocate to a suite in the this building. Sushi Sakai offers many different sushi rolls and sushi party boats. Bento boxes , some teriyaki and Korean food dishes are also available on the menu for reasonable prices.

Sushi Sakai is also a Sake bar with many brands and flavors available.

While this will be the Sushi Sakai's first venture into the City of Spokane proper, Spokane Valley will not be left without. The business says they also plan to re-open a second location, back in Spokane Valley sometime " within the year ". Exactly when and where is not yet known.

For more information on Sushi Sakai visit them online at-

www.sushisakai.com

Or via Facebook at-

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sushi-Sakai/108717535834909

Some original restaurants never left....

While the building at 829 E. Boone has appeared a little empty, it never actually was empty. That's because two of the tenants that moved in when the building was built are still open for business there.

The frozen yogurt chain, Froyo Earth and cheesesteak / sandwich chain Bruchi's  also maintain restaurants there serving hungry students and locals alike. Bruchi's did also recently announce they are planning a new location in Downtown Spokane, not too far away but will likely still keep this location.

The Heart of it All wedding chapel opening in Coeur d' Alene

Considered to be the wedding capital of the Pacific Northwest, Coeur d' Alene already has several business in the wedding industry. But, lately this industry has been a big news making topic locally. Recently Idaho began allowing same sex marriage, making the landmark Hitching Post wedding chapel to refuse marrying non traditional couples. Something that has brought about lawsuits, protests, etc...

But soon, Coeur d' Alene area couples will have a new wedding chapel option with the opening of a new business called, The Heart of it All in Downtown Coeur d' Alene.

The Heart of it All is currently under construction as it will take over what was a vacant storefront. The chapel will occupy what was last HippieKat, a vintage clothing store at 314 N. 4th St. only blocks away from Coeur d' Alene Lake.

An official opening is expected soon , perhaps during the month of April. The Heart of it All will be a " judgment free wedding chapel " that will marry both traditional and same sex couples. This new business is being started by local residents Dave & Vesta Sterenchock.

The Heart of it All will be able to do all weddings from full weddings to quick, more Las Vegas style weddings, both indoors and outdoors.

While work is already happening at 314 N. 4th , some more work and items are needed for The Heart of it All to officially open their doors. Because of this the business has launched a fund raising web site gofundme.com . To donate, and get more information on what they are purposing to do at The Heart of it All, check out their page at-

Construction starts on new Downtown Indaba Coffee + renderings!

In case you haven't heard the good news yet, the West Central neighborhood's anchor coffee shop, Indaba Coffee is adding a new second location in Downtown Spokane!

We posted about this back in early February when the coffee shop launched their indiegogo.com fundraising campaign. ( read that post here - http://www.inlandnwbusiness.com/2015/02/indaba-coffee-launches-indiegogo.html )

The Indiegogo campaign has since closed and while it did raise an impressive amount, it still fell short of the goal. But Indaba fan's ,like myself , need not worry because regardless the new Downtown location will still happen. In fact, some early construction work has already started on the new space.
The new location will be in the heart of the Downtown core in a neat historical building, The Bennett Block building. Indaba will take the small space at 212 N. Howard , the storefront immediately south of Mizuna.

But why post, what is basically old news? Because there are new details...

Uptic Studios, a Spokane based architecture and design firm who is in charge of what this new Indaba location will look like has released some renderings of the purposed finished product. Here is a look at those...

The new location will employ about 5 and offer a wide selection of coffee drinks, coffee cocktails and retail coffee's.

Currently no opening date is set but should be within the next few months. Also the orginal location at 1425 W. Broadway in West Central Spokane will remain open for business.

For more information on Indaba Coffee visit their web site at-

www.indabacoffee.com

Shakey's Pizza closes Spokane location

Some bad news has been confirmed, the local location of Shakey's Pizza has closed it's doors. We inquired with Shakey's corporate office who tells INBW that the location closed due to " unforeseen circumstances" .

The rumor is that the location is now up for sale. The Spokane Shakey's Pizza was located in North Spokane, near The Y at 9602 N. Newport Hwy.

Shakey's Pizza, the company, is still in business with the nearest location now in Pasco,WA at 4525 N. Road 68.

O'Reilly Auto Parts to build new store in Spokane Valley, some businesses displaced

The area around the corner of Sprague and Bowdish in Spokane Valley has already seen some changes over the last few months. The iconic Halpin's is now gone with a Complete Suite Furniture store now in it's space . And, Ringo's Little Vegas is now a business called The Member's Lounge / Mari Jane's Tap House.

But, now over on the Northwest side of the of the busy intersection even more changes are in the works. O' Reilly Auto Parts , a Springfield,MO based chain of auto parts stores with many stores already in the Spokane / Coeur d' Alene area ( including a couple close by this site, maybe one will move? ) will build a new store there.

The company has already purchased the land there and filed for building permits to build the new store. In the permit information it shows a 15,335 square foot store to be built at 11421 E. Sprague Ave. .  This store is still early in process so no opening date or amount of employees have been released as of yet.

This new store has one interesting tidbit, in that the company will have to demolish a couple of businesses to make way for their new store. No businesses will close but some will relocate, here is who they are and where they are moving their businesses too-

Mike's Old Fashioned Donuts

Mike's Donuts, a long running donut shop has moved into newly remodeled space in the HiCo Plaza building at Sprague and Argonne, still in Spokane Valley.

Harmon Glass

The Spokane Valley location of Harmon Glass, a chain of auto glass shops will leave their current location ( also, 11421 E. Sprague Ave. ) for a new site at 7227 E. Sprague further towards Spokane.

Nearby at Sushi Sakai

Not far away from this new location, but not affected by the building construction work Sushi Sakai is also moving soon and will actually be relocating from Spokane Valley into Spokane.

Sushi Sakai will join a shopping center geared towards dining near Gonzaga at 829 E. Boone Ave.

Around the Board, Board game cafe opening in Spokane

The trend of board game cafe's that's already hit Asia, Canada and many other locales is coming soon to Spokane. Local resident Jennifer DeHart is planning to open a new board game café called Around the Board in Downtown Spokane.

Around the Board will be located at 9 S. Washington and take about 1,000 square feet of storefront space in the STCU / Hutton Building. The café will have no cover charge ( which is apparently common of other board game cafe's ) and many board games to play / board game themed décor throughout the business.

Around the Board held a Kickstarter fundraising campaign recently which was un-successful. However, the business will still open without this funding as the Kickstarter was for equipment, etc. . The business location and logo ( seen below ) are already secure.

Around The Board will be a family friendly establishment with espresso drinks, sandwiches , bakery items and much more.

And, speaking of the board game themed décor Around The Board will have a Where's Waldo Wall , a chalkboard wall for Pictionary and more. Seating for 50 will also be included in the space.

Opening date has yet to be set but will likely be in late April. No web site has been set up, but a basic Facebook page is online now and can be found at-

https://www.facebook.com/aroundtheboard509

Goodies Popped & Frozen opening in Spokane Valley

Opening at Spokane Valley Mall is a new and unique " snack bar " type of business that features gourmet popcorn's , shaved ice and even Dole Whips.

The business is called Goodies Popped &Frozen and was scheduled to open for business at the Mall on March 15th. But, due to my other obligations I have not been able to confirm they have opened. Goodies owners owned a similar business in Las Vegas before selling there and bringing this fun and new business concept north to Spokane.

Goodies Popped & Frozen, features many flavors of gourmet popcorns. With 25 different flavors with everything from dill pickle to a caramel mocha flavor. The Hawaiian Shaved Ice at Goodies is different the traditional shaved ice's, as they are made with no chunks. Syrups are shipped in from Hawaii and are made with over 30 different flavors.

Dole Whips will also be available. These treats are vegan, fat free, cholesterol free and lactose free and are the same products that are sold at Disneyland and the Dole Plantation in Oahu, Hawaii.

Some other items will also be sold by Goodies. The business owners mention that " We will also sell gourmet cotton candy ...We make our own flavored sugars that are organic and pure cane sugar...cookie dough, rootbeer, apple pie...and many more.  "\

The business's web site looks to still be under construction, but they can be found on Facebook at-

Keystone Automotive planning large distribution center on West Plains

Here we grow again, another large industrial project is in the works on the West Plains to the south of Spokane International Airport. In fact, this new facility is close by the Caterpillar Distribution Center, which is also quite large and was a big newsmaker when it open a couple of years ago.

This new facility will be for Keystone Automotive, which is a Pennsylvania based wholesaler of aftermarket automotive parts and a subsidiary of LHQ Corp.  The center will act as a regional distribution center and will be located off of Hallett Rd. at 6120 S. Thomas Mallen Rd. .

Construction on the new building will start soon with an opening planned for late this year. The new Keystone Automotive Distribution Center will have about 250,000 square feet of space and employ about 60.

Spokane based SDS Realty is responsible for the sale of the property and Garco Construction,Inc. also locally based will do the construction work on the new center. Keystone Automotive also already operates a much smaller distribution center here in Spokane at 3200 E. Trent Ave. that location will likely close once this new location opens.

Several Spokane restaurants featured in Wall St. Journal

The news is spreading like wildfire!!!

Spokane has an excellent, growing and vibrant restaurant scene. We may not be a LA or New York City with people waiting months for a table reservation as of yet but we have made huge strides.

And, perhaps some proof of that is in a article that was published in a recent Wall Street Journal. The article is entitled " 6 Great Small Cities for Food Lovers " and also includes restaurants from San Antonio,Tx. , Columbus, Oh. , Sacramento, Ca. , Omaha, Neb. and Raleigh - Durham, NC .

The article features several restaurants here in Spokane. Included are...

Durkin's Liquor Bar ( 415 W. Main http://www.durkinsliquorbar.com/ )

Italia Trattoria ( 144 S. Cannon St. http://italiatrattoriaspokane.com/ )

The Wandering Table ( 1242 W. Summit Pkwy. http://www.thewanderingtable.com/ )

Casper Fry ( 928 S. Perry http://www.casperfry.com/ )

Sante ( 404 W. Main http://santespokane.com/ )

Mizuna ( 214 N. Howard http://mizuna.com/

A huge congratulations goes out from all of here at Inland Northwest Business Watch for making it to the " big time ". And if you like to read the article for yourself, check it out here:

Call for help: Who's billboards are these???

Ok, it worked great last time I asked on here for everyone's help in locating where Panera Bread would be in Spokane. With your help I was able to track down that Panera Bread will ( eventually ) be coming to Spokane Valley ( more on that here- http://www.inlandnwbusiness.com/2015/02/panera-bread-is-coming-to-spokane-valley.html )

So I have another question for you, my great loyal INBW readers. In the last week or two I've seen a couple of these billboards.....

It's kind of hard to read in this, but in the orange at the bottom it says " Opening soon in Coeur d' Alene ". I want to know exactly who this is, that's opening soon in CdA.

The phrase would have one thinking health care, and there is a medical weight loss place opening soon on N. Government Way, could it be them? Or a coffee shop? Bar?   I have ideas but nothing set in stone.

I also reached out to Lamar Advertising of Spokane ( the owner of this billboard on Seltice Way ) . But have not heard back from them yet.

If you know, who this is for, and / or some info about this new business. Contact me , Matt Behringer , anytime at this e-mail address-

Or, post your tip to our Facebook page at-

Construction may begin soon on " University Apartments " ,940 N. Ruby

Construction permits have now been filed with the City of Spokane, and thanks to the work of Baker Construction, site work is complete on what is apparently to be called University Apartments at 940 N. Ruby St in Spokane.

This new apartment complex will be large, in fact it will offer six floors in all. And five floors of livable spaces above a ground floor parking / entry area. Here is a rendering we we're able to locate on what this building will likely look like once complete-

This new apartment building is located on blocks north of Downtown Spokane. And, of bigger importance just a short walk off campus at Gonzaga University. These new apartments are meant primarily for students of Gonzaga, and is being developed privately.

The building will be next to The Arc of Spokane Thrift Store and across N. Ruby from the abandoned Centennial Mills Complex.

There will be 60 apartments available in the building with 213 beds. Units will come fully furnished and have access to many on site amenities. Among them will be two fitness centers, study space, game room , secure bicycle storage and a café.

But don't count on leasing an apartment at 940 N. Ruby just yet as the estimated completion date is still over a year away. Likely in the later half of 2016.

Sweeto Burrito coming to Spokane Valley

As noted in the above photo, the signs are already up and work is getting underway for the latest fast casual restaurant chain to set up shop in the Spokane area.

That chain is Sweeto Burrito, a group of burrito / taco restaurants that is branching out around the West mainly, with one location coming soon back east in Woodbridge,VA. Ever since it's small beginnings as a food truck at the Sturgis Harley Davidson Rally in 2011 has been successful and growing. Today Sweeto Burrito operates about 7 locations with many more in the works.

The new Spokane Sweeto Burrito is the first location for our area and will occupy a former shoe store space, near the original Spokane Valley Wal Mart on E. Broadway. The new restaurant will be located next door to Subway in the small strip mall building in front of Wal Mart. Their address will be 15727 E. Broadway Ave.

The new Spokane Valley location is currently under construction and if all goes as planned it will open for business on May 25th. Hiring for this location has not yet started.

The menu of Sweeto Burrito is unique to say the least as the chain does not always follow authentic Mexican burrito styles. In fact one of the menu items at Sweeto Burrito is described as a " monster cheeseburger burrito " .  Tacos, nachos, " bowlers " and more items will also be available.

For more information Sweeto Burrito, including a look at their menu check out their web site at-

University of Washington to open office in Downtown Spokane

The former Visit Spokane Visitor Center building at the corner of Browne and Main,Downtown has looked a bit sad, being empty since sometime last year. Visit Spokane is still up and running, working to promote Spokane just as hard as ever. But they did move their visitor center to a kiosk near the main entry to River Park Square, leaving the City owned building un-used.

But after a vote by City Council, that will soon end as they have decided to allow the University of Washington to remodel the structure and move in later this year. The new location , which will be called UW Spokane Center should open around May 2015.

Here is a look at a rendering of what the building will look like once the conversion to UW is complete:

No classes will be offered by the University of Washington at this site. Instead they plan to use the building as a sort of outreach center / office building. The center will have offices for people wanting to get more info on the school from Western Washington, alumni relations and even some event space.

While not a retail store this new UW Spokane Center does show a limited amount of UW themed products in the renderings on their official web site.

The UW Spokane Center will employ 6 and is using the locally based Blue Room Architecture & Design for all design work. Although the building itself will be on a lease agreement with the City of Spokane.

University of Washington beat out two other bidders for use of the building. They we're Horizon Credit Union, who planned a branch there and a bar and restaurant from the same ownership as Fast Eddie's on N. Division, also Downtown.

Ruby Suites, other businesses opening soon in Burgan's Block Building

One of the biggest construction projects happening right now in Spokane's up and coming University District is nearing completion. And, new businesses and jobs will soon be coming to the newly renovated Burgan's Block Building on N. Division.

The building is a project of local developer , Jerry Dicker, who will lease out the ground floor with a couple of restaurants already coming to that area. Upper floors of the building will be used by Ruby Hospitality ( owner of Hotel Ruby in Downtown Spokane and others ) for their latest lodging option that's unlike it's other existing hotel properties.

Renderings and some property photos of the lodging portion of the building are available on the Ruby Suites web site listed below.

To keep everyone in the know here are the business coming in the next few months to the newly re-opened Burgan's Block Building-

Ruby Suites

Ruby Suites is a lodging property that is not exactly like most hotels. Ruby Suites will offer fully serviced residences for stays of more then a day or two but not long enough to rent a full apartment. A kind of extended stay hotel, in a way.

Ruby Suites will be a mid to upscale property with a fitness center, modern look, maid service and many other amenities. This will be the first business to open in the building and as mentioned above should open in about a month.

Urban Outfitters coming to Spokane

The rumors have been confirmed to be true! The " mystery retailer " looking to open at River Park Square and take over 17 feet of right of way on N. Wall St is in fact , Urban Outfitters.

Urban Outfitters is a chain of stores which feature clothing, accessories , footwear , housewear items and more. The chain has a large appeal to a younger crowd , college students ,hipsters and the like. While based in Philadelphia,PA the chain has locations around the World. Currently the company operates about 400 retail stores total.

In addition to the new Spokane Urban Outfitters, the company is also bringing it's very popular sister brand of Anthropologie stores to Spokane. That store was confirmed a couple of weeks ago as taking over the space in the 809 W. Main Building that currently houses the Mobius Science Center. Mobius is not going out of business however, more info on that situation can be found here ( with update coming...) :

http://www.inlandnwbusiness.com/2015/01/anthropologie-coming-to-spokane.html

Urban Outfitters will actually join into River Park Square in the heart of Downtown Spokane. The store is seeking to demolish the small " Saad Building " next to Mall which used to house a T-Mobile store and a handful of other businesses and be replaced with a new modern looking two story Urban Outfitters store. Here is a rendering we have obtained of what this new store / building would look like once complete-

The actual construction of this new store does however rely on final approval from the City of Spokane to allow the company to use a portion of the Wall St. right of way. Which can be seen in the above photo. It is appearing at the present time that this will eventually be allowed.

This will be both Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie's first stores in the Spokane area. The Urban Outfitters store will open in 2016 and will employ a yet to be announced amount of workers.

For more information on Urban Outfitters, visit their web site at-

Spokane Overstock opens for big deals

Looking for a bargain? Perhaps you're planning a remodeling project? Well one new business in our area might just be worth a look. While I personally haven't had the time to check it out for myself this business does have the motto of " where every day is Black Friday" and a pretty significant social media following.

This new business is Spokane Overstock and they opened recently in Spokane Valley. Spokane Overstock outgrew their first location on E. Knox and moved in Feb. ( after being open about a month ) to a bigger location, which they are at today. That location is 9818 E. Montgomery , near by Argonne Rd  and the I-90 Argonne Rd exit.

Spokane Overstock sells a wide selection of overstocked merchandise that they buy at a lower cost directly from several large retail stores. And, because this merchandise is from these stores it is not off brand but instead brands like , Stearns & Foster Mattresses , Beats by Dre and many more. And the stock changes.

According to the businesses Facebook page much of the store's merchandise is priced as much as half off retail. And many items are for sale, items sold by Spokane Overstock includes: Mattresses, bathroom vanity's , couches , loveseats, home décor , Beat by Dre Headphones, cabinets, lighting and much more.

The store is open Friday , Saturday and Sunday from 10-4 and they do offer delivery in the city, for a fee.

For more information on Spokane Overstock, check them out on Facebook at-

Commons on Regal may be next large shopping center on the South Hill

Although it's in development and the potential is there for the development to not get built, it looks strongly like another new large shopping center may be on the way to the South Hill. In fact this project is only a few blocks south of the last one, Regal Plaza, home of Target, Petsmart and others.

This new project is called Commons on Regal and appears to have no set in stone tenants lined up but is good sized with multiple space for multiple sized businesses. Commons on Regal will be located at 5415 S. Regal Rd near the corner of Regal and 53rd.

Commons on Regal offers about 75,000 total square feet of new space for both retail and restaurant uses. The project's marketing materials identify a grocery store , hardware store and a pharmacy as proposed anchor tenants.

Also according to the marketing materials the project is scheduled to be built in 2015 / 2016 , with no exact timeline given.

We will keep an eye on this project, keep watching Inland Northwest Business Watch for more.

And, for more info on leasing and space available at Commons on Regal, check out-

Only about a block away from Caffe Affogato, and over on N. Division is Globe Bar & Kitchen in the historic Globe Hotel building. Another bar called the Globe also once existed at this building.

The Globe Bar & Kitchen's address is 204 N. Division . This new business is one of the more interesting on this list, because it's a little bit of everything. The Globe offers a club like atmosphere with a sports bar and a full restaurant.

The food menu at The Globe is headed up by Executive Chef William Webster and features burgers , sandwiches,  some entrees and more.
