Spokane Comedy Club becomes Spokane Shake Company... at least for now

Events like comedy shows won't be allowed in Washington state until " phase 4 " so to get their staff back to work and making profit, the Spokane Comedy Club has gotten creative in a very awesome way.

The comedy club / bar at 315 W. Sprague has developed a restaurant menu of pizzas, hot dogs and milkshakes with milkshakes being their specialty. They have even re-named themselves the Spokane Shake Company.

They say even after the comedy shows return they will keep an expanded menu of some sort. The new menu has 30 shakes made with Tillamook Ice Cream in regular and large sizes. Boozy shakes are also available and the shakes can be made vegan.

Delivery of the Spokane Shake Company menu is also available to be delivered via Grubhub, Uber Eats, Doordash and Postmates.

Re-development coming to former Downtown Les Schwab

SVN Cornerstone advisor Taylor Gibbons represented the buyer and seller for the former Les Schwab tire and repair shop at 101 W. 2nd. Les Schwab relocated elsewhere Downtown a few months ago.

The building's new owner has big plans for the 7,530 square foot building which we will be watching for more news on in the coming weeks. Much of the building will be re-developed into a convenience store and the remainder will be used for at least a couple of retail bays to leased out to other business.

Re-development possible for former Downtown Days Inn

Not far away from the aforementioned Les Schwab is an older Days Inn motel at 128 W. Third which was recently sold to a new owner. The new owner Fortify Holdings, LLC of Beaverton,OR.  is in the early planning phase to convert the entire motel into studio apartments with an extensive renovation.

We will be watching to see if this project does come to fruition and what all will be included. The site also includes the former Taaj Indian restaurant which will also be re-developed possibly for a new restaurant operator.

Plans show possible " delivery station " coming to former Lowe's on N. Division, could this be another Amazon project?

INBW staff photo- the recently opened Spokane Amazon Fulfillment Center on the West Plains.

It's a project that's still early in the process, but a large company is working on plans to convert the former Lowe's store at 6902 N. Division into a warehouse of sorts. The site has not even gone to permitting and is only up for a "Pre-Development Application" but the documents filed along with the plans indicate this could be another Amazon related project.

The Amazon name is not on the documents but the contact info is company in Seattle and it's called a " delivery station " which is the name of the smallest form of Amazon warehouse's. An Amazon operated site describes their delivery stations as buildings where customer orders are prepared for "last mile" delivery to customers.

This wouldn't be the first time recently that the massive company has announced a delivery station type warehouse after a developing a fulfillment center here in the Northwest. To our South in the Boise area Amazon is building a massive fulfillment center in Nampa and converting a 80,000 square foot warehouse near the Airport in Boise into a delivery station.

Regardless of who the company is behind the project in Spokane, it's large and seems like something that would bring new jobs to Spokane. The majority of the building ( 116,000 square feet ) would be turned into warehouse space with a lane for fleet vehicles to pull through the facility at the back, five semi truck bays would be along the front of the building. A 9,600 square foot office area would also be along the front ( southern ) half of the existing structure.

The project would also add a large surface parking area. Just south of the building is a Sportsman's Warehouse store that would remain. But, new parking for employees would be on the vacant lot just south of that store. The plans call for a total of 117 " associate " parking spaces.

The project is still being planned but I do expect it to come to fruition as the questions they ask of the city imply they want to begin construction as soon as possible, going as far as to ask if they can pay for city staff's OT to approve their plans. Another section shows the project is hoping for a Spring 2021 opening.

We will watch this project very closely as it appears this project might be big news for Spokane and might move fast so stay tuned!

Construction underway for new North 40 Outfitters in Airway Heights

We've heard of a possible new North 40 Outfitters coming to Airway Heights for quite some time. But, it's now becoming a reality as signs are now posted and actual physical construction started on the site recently.

Site work has been underway for a few days now and when I checked up on the project earlier in the week a concrete pumping rig was working suggesting some foundation work was underway beyond my line of sight.

The new store will be at 9646 W. US Hwy 2 , at the intersection of US 2 and Deer Heights Rd., and technically falls just inside the city limits of Spokane . Once complete the store will be 95,000 square feet with 75,600 square feet of retail selling space and the remainder will be support space and warehouse. Young Construction Group of Hayden is the general contractor and there is no news on a opening date as of yet.

The new Airway Heights North 40 Outfitters store will be like the rest of the chain, selling farm and ranch supplies, automotive, apparel, tools, home and garden supplies and more. It will be the 3rd store in the Spokane metro and another location is located in Coeur d' Alene.

Progress check - Coast Aluminum & Architectural's new warehouse in Spokane Valley is coming together.

Construction is well underway for the large new warehouse being constructed for the Hayward,CA based Coast Aluminum & Architectural. The new building is located within Spokane Valley's Pinecroft Business Park along Pinecroft Way in-between Mirabeau Pkwy and Cherry St.. It will likely replace the company's current Spokane area location within the Spokane Business & Industrial Park.

Plans call for a 73,500 square foot warehouse with attached 3,200 square foot office space. We checked in on the project earlier this week and walls are now up on the tilt-up style building with an a significant amount of worker on site to get the building closed in soon.

We will continue to watch this and many other Spokane Valley construction projects. For more info on Coast Aluminum & Architectural, check out their website at - http://coastaluminum.com

New restaurants coming to the Coeur d' Alene area

In the middle of July, I posted about several new restaurants coming to the Spokane area, because despite the ever changing Covid rules, places are still planning on opening and they deserve to be noticed! Now it's the places opening soon in the Coeur d' Alene area's turn to be highlighted...

Like before this is not a complete list, just what comes to mind. Some will probably get full posts of their own on here someday, this is just meant to be a quick look. And, if you have any leads about places I've missed feel free to reach out to me at inlandbusiness@yahoo.com .

River City Pizza

With locations in Otis Orchards and Spokane Valley, River City Pizza will be opening their first location in Idaho soon. The locally owned pizza restaurant will be in the small strip mall at the corner of Prarie & Atlas on the north side of Coeur d' Alene.

32 Below Frozen Yogurt & More

Watch for 32 Below to open soon in the newly built plaza out front on The Northern at Coeur d' Alene Place on Ramsey Rd.( address is 2045 Tea Olive Ln. Ste 101 ).

As is implied by the name, 32 Below is a frozen yogurt place, but it will be a bit different then all the other ones out there. That's because they will also sell beer and wine in addition to 12 rotating flavors of Froyo.

Gelato by the Lake

Gelato by the Lake is a new gelato shop now open for business in Downtown Coeur d' Alene at 217 E. Sherman Ave.

Wilder Coffee Roasters

Serving up what they call " hand crafted, artfully roasted, small batch coffee ", Wilder Coffee Roasters has opened up their small new slow bar in Downtown Coeur d' Alene at 211 E. Lakeside Ave.

Giorgi's Restaurant

With a menu of breakfast and lunch, Giorgi's Restaurant , who got it's start in Rathdrum,  will be opening soon in the former Roger's Burgers location out front of At Home at 155 W. Neider Ave.

Roger's Burgers

Since I mentioned a new restaurant going into a former Roger's Burgers location about I figured it was important to point out that Roger's isn't gone. In fact the locally owned and operated burger and ice cream chain is just re-locating that location to all new building they are building now under construction at 2420 N. Government Way in Coeur d' Alene.

Izzy's Comfort Kitchen

Described as a comfort food bistro with southern charm, Izzy's Comfort Kitchen will be opening for business in the coming weeks at 726 N. 4th St , the former home of Ten/6. There is no opening date announced just yet but they are already hiring for their job openings.

Ten/6

Ten/6 is coming back too. The restaurant was a Alice in Wonderland inspired breakfast and lunch restaurant that had quite the following. They recently announced they plan to re-open in 2021 at 7th and Wallace, still in Coeur d' Alene.

Sherman Food Court

A new food truck pod called Sherman Food Court has opened in what was last used as a Vet's office parking lot at 1902 E. Sherman, just east of Downtown Coeur d' Alene. So far a truck from Iron Pizza ( who also has a restaurant at 4th & Best ) and a poke' trailer called Poke me Poke you have signed up for the new site.

India House Restaurant

It looks like crews are finally working on a new Indian restaurant coming soon to Post Falls. We don't have much info on it yet other then to say it will be called India House and is planned to open in the strip mall nearby Wal-Mart at 740 N. Cecil in Post Falls.

Fast food

In this day and age I encourage everyone to try a local restaurant first over the big chains. But I at least have to mention there has been some moves of local chain locations. Here's the scoop on those-

1. Carl's Jr. has built a new location at 106 Appleway and they have moved here from an older restaurant they had a few blocks east of this site. In fact this location was last a Burger King

2. Burger King has built an all new location, they are now open for business at 3827 Ramsey Rd in Coeur d' Alene.

3. Dairy Queen is returning. The chain closed their location on Appleway in Coeur d' Alene a couple of years ago. But,it looks like Dairy Queen will be coming back as their website now shows a new location planned at " 95 & Hayden Ave " in Hayden. Not much else is known about this planned location yet however.
