A sneak peak of the new Hotel Indigo and Magnolia American Brasserie, opening later this month.

A new hotel and restaurant are opening soon in Downtown Spokane. After months of renovation the Hotel Indigo, located in former Otis Hotel building at 110 S Madison ( corner of Madison & First ) is nearing completion is now scheduled to open at the end of this month. And, we recently got a sneak peak look at the new space ( Thank you! )

The new hotel is a part of the growing Hotel Indigo brand from IHG that are a more hip, boutique style properties and highlight the regions they call home. And, that's true with the new Hotel Indigo here in Spokane as many unique murals portraying the history of Gonzaga University athletics can be found all around. Additionally, on each floors elevator lobby is a mock advertising mural of each of the previous hotels who once called the building home.

Before the renovation the building sat vacant for sometime but has history going back over 100 years as the building was built in 1911. And, the new hotel highlights that history at every turn, from re-purposed wood being used all over, mailboxes behind the front desk to the original stone tile floor in the lobby and a antique safe that was moved out of the buildings basement and more. Even some of the original room doors are used for decorative purposes on the walls of upper floor corridors. There is too much history in this building to share in one article, if you have an interest the history of our area this new hotel is a must visit.

But, the Hotel Indigo Spokane is also a very modern, very unique new hotel also. The hotel will feature 108 guest rooms with WiFi , valet parking, fitness center, business center and more. The property will also be pet friendly with dogs and cats welcome with a fee ( contact the hotel for up to date amounts ) .

Space for events will available with a meeting room and a banquet room adjacent to the restaurant that can be closed off for private functions. Contact the hotel for rental information.

Magnolia American Brasserie is also opening!

It's not just the Hotel Indigo that's opening in the building. The front half of the ground floor will be a new eatery called Magnolia American Brasserie, which can be accessed without having to go through the hotel as it will have a dedicated entry in the front along First Ave. . Magnolia is currently set to open at the same time as the hotel and will feature an " Approachable French " menu and a full bar. The menu is still be perfected but count on us to check it out sometime after they open.

We are very excited for this new addition to an evolving part of Downtown Spokane, it's worth checking out. If you'd like more info or to make reservations at Hotel Indigo, find them online at-

Chipotle Mexican Grill to open in North Spokane

Fans of the Chipotle Mexican Grill chain will be excited to know that Spokane will soon be home to a second location of the restaurant.

Chipotle will remodel the one suite of the building at 9602 N. Newport Hwy, replacing the Northpointe Sweeto Burrito location. The other half of the building is a local restaurant called Nudo Ramen House who assures us via social media that they have no plans to close or re-locate.

The new restaurant will occupy about 5750 square feet of space and will open in early 2021. The California based chain of fast casual Mexican restaurants has about 2700 locations worldwide, Spokane's only other location is just north of Downtown at 930 N. Division. There was also a location in Coeur d' Alene that existed for a short time but closed in late 2018 along with dozens of other stores at that time.

Work starts for new commercial development on US 2 near Airway Heights

After months of waiting, crews from Baker Construction & Development are now busy with site work and even some early foundation work for a new commercial development off of US 2, just east of Flint Rd. and the Hilton Garden Inn hotel by Airway Heights ( technically within the city limits of Spokane )

What is being worked on now is the first phase of a larger project and in the current phase, three new businesses will open here. An access road will be built on the back portion of the parcel to the new businesses which will be built abutting the highway.

The businesses opening there will include a Bruchi's restaurant in addition to locations for Bush Car Wash and Roasters Coffee. This will be the first locations for Bush Car Wash and Roasters Coffee in the Spokane market as both are based in the Tri-Cities.

In a future phase the back half of parcel will be built out with at least a couple more buildings likely including a strip mall like retail structure and office space. This portion does not have an construction date or even a set plan as it is still " in the works ". We will continue to watch this project as it advances.

New quick service restaurants join Downtown's Crescent Court building.

Downtown Spokane is about to get two new restaurants. Spokanewich and Tio's Taqueria have spent several months now renovating a 1380 square foot space on the Skywalk level of the Crescent Court building ( 707 W. Main ) into what resembles a small food court with the new locally owned and operated quick service eateries.

Photos courtesy of Jesse Fox, SVN Cornerstone, thank you!

Both new businesses will open for businesses on Monday, July 6th and have small menus that are perfect for a quick but delicious meal. Tio's Taqueria has a menu that focuses on street tacos with Carne Asada, Pastor and a few more items. Additionally Tio's will serve Sopa, chips & salsa and drinks including Mexican soda.

Photo courtesy of Jesse Fox, SVN Cornerstone, thank you!

Just a few feet to the left of Tio's Tequeria is Spokanewich, and as the name implies they sell fresh sandwiches, in addition to drinks and custard.

The space used by Tio's and Spokanewich was leased by John Hillier of SVN Cornerstone. This is just the latest new business to open in this area. The Crescent Court building has several more spaces available, just waiting for a new business. It surely won't be long until we're all meeting " under the clock " at The Crescent once more. For info on opening a business in the building contact John Hillier ( 509-939-8094 ) or Jesse Fox ( 509-850-2805 ) with SVN Cornerstone or visit

Construction is underway for Spokane's first Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A is coming to Spokane, for real this time. There have been many rumors and a few times it looked like they we're coming, when they really weren't. But, permits are in and physical construction is happening now on Spokane's first Chick-fil-A restaurant location.

Photos are used with permission from the Bring Chick-fil-A to Spokane Facebook page . Thank you!

Site work is largely done and as seen in the pictures some foundation work is happening at the site. It does still have a few months worth of work to go, but this is progress. No opening date has been announced just yet for the business, which will be located at 9304 N. Newport Hwy, just north of The Y at the corner of Newport & Hoerner Rd. .

Plans call for the restaurant to be built directly next to Newport Hwy with a drive though lane circling it on the west side and a 80 stall parking lot on the east side of the property. At this time, this is the only planned Chick-fil-A location coming to Spokane.

For more information on Chick-fil-A, visit

Once the renovations are complete the building will also house Gamers Haven, a gaming store that is relocating there from the Valley. We have also heard a barber shop and other small tenants are likely to open on the building's second floor.

Western States CAT planning an equipment dealership in Liberty Lake

Western States CAT is a full line CAT equipment dealer that already has locations around the Inland Northwest and elsewhere in Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Montana. And, now it appears they are in the planning phase for a large new dealership coming soon along I-90 in Liberty Lake.

The company is now in the SEPA application process for a 127,364 square foot facility at 20150 E. Cataldo on Liberty Lake's western edge. The site would require a short extension of E. Cataldo from the neighboring Camping World RV dealership and would also be accessible via a gate at the end of Harvest Pkwy on the north side of the parcel.

According to the documents included in the SEPA application construction is estimated to start in or about August and be completed in early 2022. Included in the plan is 46,000+ square foot equipment shop, 15,000+ square foot parts warehouse, 15,000+ square foot hydraulics and spec shop in addition to office space, support space and a shipping and receiving area. The facility's property will also include 178 surface parking spaces and outdoor equipment display areas.

Large business park planned in Airway Heights, further positioning the region for growth despite economic uncertainty of COVID-19

It's no secret, the economy has taken a hit and even now there is some uncertainty about what's next. But one local real estate company, AT Industrial is bullish about Spokane's future. The company recently announced they are planning to expand their commercial real estate portfolio in Spokane by building a new business park called West McFarlane Business Park, which will be in Airway Heights.

Construction is set to start sometime within the 2nd quarter of this year and is to be complete in early 2021. Upon completion the facility will feature a 187,000 square foot structure offering class A industrial space, heavy industrial zoning and 480V 3-phase power. This new business park will be located at 12315 W. McFarlane Rd, nearby the Spokane International Airport and  the Exotic Metals Forming Co. building, which is another local expanding company.

The West McFarlane Business Park could house up to 12 tenants and is being marketed , in part, towards national e-commerce businesses. AT Industrial has worked in larger markets like Seattle, Boise and Sacramento allowing them to recognize market trends they intend to bring back home to Spokane. Among the project features is double-sided loading as well as excess land that can be used for truck trailer parking or outside storage. These are just some of the features that make a property attractive for companies who need to fulfill that important " last mile distribution ".

Additionally the business park is being built within the Airway Height Opportunity Zone, which encourages new business through tax advantages, which means the business park building can be built at a lower than other developments in the region. These savings they say will be passed along to the tenants with leases anticipated to be 10-15% lower than at other local business parks.

AT Industrial is based in Spokane Valley and was formed by experienced real estate executives Tim Wolff, who recently retired from his operating role at the prominent Spokane real estate firm, The Wolff Company, but remains active on it's investment committee and Aaron Lake, president of Leavitt Capital. AT Industrial already owns over 700,000 square feet of industrial property in the Spokane area.

We plan to continue watching for more news on this project. And, for more info on this project and other AT Industrial projects, visit their website

New neighborhood commercial building to rise in Liberty Lake's River District

Photo credit- Matt Behringer, Inland Northwest Business Watch

Photo credit- Greenstone Homes ( posted to their Facebook page )

Despite some delays from the Covid-19 pandemic, we checked and workers are on site working on the framing for a new commercial building that will soon be in the heart of Liberty Lake's River District development.

Developer Greenstone Homes is planning the new building to be at 1950 N. Harvest Pkwy, at the corner of Harvest Pkwy and Indiana and directly across from the recently constructed Orchard Park. The building will be approximately 2800 square feet with enough space for two tenants. Greenstone says one of the important components of their plan is to mix small commercial uses within the residential areas.  Similar to Rockwood Bakery near Manito Park. For the River District building, no tenants have been announced just yet, although a coffee shop and an ice cream shop are both among what is rumored to be opening there.

Kilgore Construction will act as the contractor for the new building, it is actually one of several projects under construction in the immediate area with new townhomes and single-family residences rising quickly around the development, including several directly to the south of the new building.

We will continue to watch this project for more news, and for more info on River District check out their page on

Work underway to convert former PAML office building into residential condos

Work is now underway to remodel one of the office buildings at the Iron Bridge Office Campus and give it an all-new use. Until recently the building at 629 N. Iron Ct  ( just off of Trent Ave.) had been nicknamed Iron Bridge VI and housed offices for lab company PAML, but all that is changing.

Property owner, Houston Stockton is re-developing the building to include 13 residential condos ranging from 700 sq. foot one bedroom units to 1800 sq. foot three bedrooms units. These condos will likely sell quick as they feature lofts and are along the river in a historic building constructed in 1912.

A 32 stall parking facility will also be added to the basement of the structure to facilitate the new tenants. The project, which is nicknamed Iron Bridge Condos on the permits is to be completed sometime in the second half of Summer and the work done is valued at an estimated $2 million.

Divcon, Inc. is the contractor, Ron Joseph Architecture is providing architectural design, DCI Engineers is providing engineering services. And, Design Source, Inc. and R&R Heating & Cooling are also among the sub-contractors involved in the project.

Renovations pushing forward for Downtown Spokane's new Lolo Lofts building

The revitalization of Downtown Spokane's western edge is pushing forward with W. 1st Ave. being it's main drag. In recent months we've seen the openings of new restaurants like Watts 1903, a new brewery called Brick West Brewing Co, a hip urban mid rise apartment building,  a pleasant urban park a few new shops and more. But it's not stopping there as more places are coming in the next few months with Method Juice / Union Yoga , Hotel Indigo and a new called restaurant Magnolia American all still under construction.

And, there is even more being re-development being announced as we're now learning about a new mixed use renovation project at 111 S. Adams, the historic brick building at the southeast side of the W. First / S. Adams intersection.

Plans call for the structure to be fully renovated and turned in a new development called Lolo Lofts. The ground floor will be updated but will remain as commercial space, 6500 square feet in all. The upper floor will be converted to a residential use with 10 hip looking loft units that will be made available for renters on Airbnb.

We have confirmed that this project will be moving forward with construction possibly beginning as soon as August and completion in the Spring of 2021. Trek Architecture of Spokane is in charge of the architectural design and stay tuned as we plan to continue watching this project as it progresses.

Handful of Inland Northwest businesses announce permanent closures

Like the rest of the country, small businesses in our area finding it hard to survive as a result of the Covid-19 closures and lock down. I don't want to do this post but for information sake I feel it's time to do a round up of the few businesses that have announced they will not be re-opening in our area....

Prospectors Bar & Grill
12611 N. Division, Spokane

Prospectors has been a long running family owned business that is closing largely due to the lack of business during the closure.

Tomato Street River Park Square
808 W. Main, Spokane

The Tomato Street location inside River Park Square will not re-open. This is one of 3 locations of the restaurant and the newest as it had just opened in 2016. The owners say this closure will allow them focus on the other locations which will remain open.

Rocky Rococo Pizza and Pasta
520 W. Main, Spokane

This was the first closure to be announced but one of the harder hitting as Rocky Rococo had been open in Downtown Spokane for over 35 years. Although the restaurant was actually part of chain it was locally owned and the only location in this region.

Lenny's American & Italian Cuisine
1204 1st St. Cheney

Despite attempting to stay afloat with take out orders the business has announced they will are not closed for good. They we're a local business that was part of the Cheney community for over 20 years.

Party Palace
2607 N. Division, Spokane

Although the current events have hit our restaurants particularly hard, other sectors haven't been spared. The retail party store Party Palace has announced they will re-open the store only to liquidate and close their doors. Party Palace has been a locally owned and operated store in Spokane for 33 years.

But, there is hope...

When 2020 started I never thought I'd be writing a post like this, it's not meant to be political just telling you what we are hearing and perhaps inspire our readers to continue to support our local businesses. Untold numbers of shops and restaurants could still be added to this list before this is all over, and we don't even really know when it will be all over.

But, it's not all sad. Rumors surfaced recently on social media that Satellite Diner & Lounge in Downtown Spokane might soon close too. But, they we're quick to debunk those rumors and today they are very much still open and still as awesome as ever.

I'm also uplifted by a phrase that was said by Lee Gibbon, the franchisee of Rocky Rococo Pizza in a Spokesman Review article about their closure. He said "It's now time to step away and allow a new generation of entrepreneurs to use their energy and talent to create the next success story within the Spokane community "

This too shall pass and we have some incredibly talented business people coming up in the Spokane area. In due time many of these places will be filled with new places where future generations will enjoy just as much as we did. I'm a history buff so of course I'm sad to see these places go but we will be back!

New pop-up southern restaurant opening in Downtown Spokane

A new restaurant is coming to Downtown Spokane serving up delicious Southern comfort food. But, likely only for a limited time due to this being a "pop-up" restaurant.

The new place is called Caroline's Southern Kitchen and it will open on Thurs. May 7th on the main floor of the Montvale Event Center at 1019 W. 1st in Downtown Spokane. We inquired about how long Caroline's will be open and we're only told they hope to be around for " a long time ", so this new restaurant will likely play off of how successful it is.

Due to the current situation the restaurant will be pick up with no indoor dining. But, the menu sounds awesome and is geared toward feeding a family ( although single servings are also available ). Among the offerings are fried chicken to southern style gumbo to brisket chili and a whole lot more. There is even dirty rice and mac & cheese on the list of sides, this is going to be amazing!

A website for Caroline's Southern Kitchen is coming soon at and a new Facebook site is up now at
