90s themed Boombox Pizza now open in Downtown Spokane

A cool new pizza restaurant  / bar with a 90s theme is now open in Downtown Spokane. Boombox Pizza is that place and it’s located within the space that was Revolver at 221 N Division. We were able to stop in for lunch ( and a little day drinking... ) , while it’s small and the pizza was a very limited menu (first couple of hours open) it is a pretty cool place. Hit 90 jams played on a handful of TVs , a wall of speakers , and giant murals of 90s stars adorn the interior . That along with a great pizza , beer , wine and a full bar make this a great new addition to Downtown Spokane.

PacWest Machinery planning large new dealership in Spokane Valley

The Spokane branch of PacWest Machinery is planning to invest locally with the recent announcement that they have acquired a parcel in Spokane Valley for a new, larger dealership. PacWest will build on a parcel located at 3515 N Sullivan Rd just west of the Spokane Business & Industrial Park.

The new PacWest Machinery will continue their concept of selling Volvo Construction equipment as well as several other leading equipment brands. The new dealership is set to be open by the second quarter of 2019 and it will be larger then their current space on E. Trent. The new dealership will have a 30,000 square foot building on 9 acres and will include a sales showroom, a 14 bay service center and an expanded parts warehouse.

The new facility will enable PacWest to stock more equipment as well as host demonstrations and training. It will also provide customers an easy to access location not far off the freeway. For more information on PacWest Machinery, visit their website at-

Ulta Beauty planning a new store in Spokane Valley

The Illinois based Ulta Beauty chain is expanding, after opening a new store over in Yakima recently they are setting their sights on adding one more store here in the Spokane area. This new Ulta will be the second in the Spokane metro and third in the Inland Northwest as they already have stores in North Spokane and Coeur d' Alene.

Not many of the details are in about the new local Ulta Beauty location other then construction will begin soon for it in Spokane Valley. It will join the tenant roster of the Evergreen Crossing shopping center at the corner of Evergreen and Indiana, just west of the Spokane Valley Mall and right off of I-90. The store there will be located in-between the Fred's Appliance and the currently under construction Tuesday Morning store in the plaza's in-line business space.

Founded in 1990 Ulta Beauty has around 1000 stores and are sort of a go to store for beauty. Their stores are usually slightly smaller then a full big box and carry cosmetics, hair and skin care products, fragrances and much more. All Ulta Beauty stores also have and in store salon.

Poke' Express to open soon on S. Grand

The owners of Yummy Ice Cream Rolls just brought the joy that is Thai rolled ice cream to Spokane just a few months ago. And, it's been going strong at 1601 N. Division ever since but they are wasting no time expanding and bringing yet another cool restaurant concept to Spokane.

Their new place, Poke' Express will be opening sometime around the middle of May and will offer both Poke' bowls and ice cream rolls. It's not the first place in Spokane to offer Hawaiian Poke' bowls but it is the newest and the first to make them an exclusive feature of their menu. Poke' Express will be located at 905 S. Grand just a short jaunt south of Sacred Heart Medical Center.

The menu will consist of about 4 pre-set poke' bowls like the Salmon Poke' with sashimi grade salmon , veggies, house seasonings and sauce and three more. Or customers will be able to build their own bowl picking a base like rice, a protein like tuna or tofu and sides, sauce and toppings. Depending on the way you get you bowl at Poke Express it will cost approximately $11 - $15.

Board & Brush Spokane - New Business Review

This post is going to be the first of a yet to be named feature where we try out newish places around town. This article is also the first to be written by a new Inland Northwest Business Watch staffer... my wife.
Being no stranger to the paint and sip concept, I thought I was perfectly prepared for everything that was going to happen. However, Board & Brush is unlike my previous canvas painting experiences. I put in a lot of effort, and with little skill, I came home with a décor item I was happy to display. 

Upon walking into the workshop, I noticed how bright, clean, and welcoming it was. The walls were adorned with design samples, paint colors, glitter, and tools. Needless to say, it was a crafters paradise. We found our spots by looking for our names on the table, which also had a stencil of our chosen custom design laying over pieces of blank wood. I decided to go with a theatre sign as a cheeky way to showcase my movie collection.

At Board & Brush, you can choose the design you want from their site ( and customize it with your name anything else you’d like. There was a woman at our table making a gift for her brother’s wedding. My husband and the other girl at our table opted for pet signs. Not only is your sign design customizable, but every step of the process is too. 
After getting a drink from their small but mighty bar, that also offered local brewery No-Li, it was time to get down to business. We used hammers, screws, bottle caps, and mallets to not only get out the stress from the week but also to destress our wood anyway we wanted to. We sanded the boards, and stained it with our choice of stain, applied hanging wire and hooks, placed our stencil where we wanted it, and colored it how we wanted. They were nice to let me go crazy with color choices and my addition of glitter. Meanwhile, the owners Tom and Barb were there to help with any issues or to refill beverages. They had a lot of regulars which not only proves you can make an endless number of great signs, but also that the owners are friendly. 
I recommend giving Board & Brush a try. It’s a unique experience that both males and females over 21 will enjoy. No experience is required. Plus, if you do mess up it just adds to your sign’s rustic design.

An Amazon fufilment center in Spokane?!?

There are a lot of rumors going around that a site nearby Spokane International Airport is being eye'd by Amazon for a new massive distribution center. Just yesterday Spokane County officials held a pre-development conference for a project code named " Super Duper Project Rose " at 10010 W. Geiger Blvd. ( along I-90, near GEG and the Medical Lake exit ) .
Many other local media outlets have been reporting on the speculation that this will be the new Amazon Spokane fulfillment center. It does seem to make complete sense but as now no part of the project can be confirmed this is the only post I'm going to put on this site for right now.

Either way with a building the size of what is purposed if we see this project come to fruition it surely will  be " super duper " for Spokane.

Quick look at The M as it is today

Renovation is going full steam ahead at the former Macy’s in Downtown Spokane. Currently the hope is to have the building done this fall and some of the residential tenants in by May.

Once complete the bottom 2 floors will be retail, a Nike Outlet is currently building out their store in half of the first floor. But the remaining first floor and all of the second floor are all still being marketed. The upper floors are apartments, with 114 units and a mix of sizes and floor plans. As per rent will be around $810- $2850 per month.

We were lucky enough to join AIA Spokane and CSI Spokane on a tour of The M and see where it stands here in Mid April. I wasn’t able snap many photos but here are a few to get an idea of what some of The M might look like, and the awesome view

The Stupid Cow opens tomorrow in Spokane Valley

You've been asking about the coming soon signs that recently appeared at the former Jennifer's Auto Sales car dealership at 17416 E. Sprague ( for the record Jennifer's is still in business at 15020 E. Sprague ) .

We did a little digging and still don't know much, but do know it will be a small restaurant called The Stupid Cow. The Stupid Cow will be from the same owners as Daley's Cheep Shots bar on E. Trent and it will be a breakfast and lunch restaurant.

We haven't seen the menu or anything else as of my writing this so watch for updates. However we can announce that if you want to check out the Stupid Cow you won't have to wait long. That's because they will be open for business starting tomorrow ( Wednesday Apr. 11th ) at 6:30am.

At this point The Stupid Cow seems to have no web site or social media pages ( yes, really....)

De Leon's Taco & Bar to open second location near Gonzaga

De Leon's Foods is growing once more, this time they will be adding a second location of their De Leon's Taco & Bar restaurant. This is the casual restaurant concept they opened just last year, and that original location will remain open near Whitworth University at 10208 N. Division.

The new De Leon's Taco & Bar will be located in the former Chapala Mexican restaurant building at the corner of N. Hamilton & E. Nora in the Logan neighborhood, not far away from Gonzaga. The 4000 square foot building was just recently purchased by De Leon's. Some remodeling will be necessary with the new De Leon's location opening for business sometime around the end of Summer / early fall of this year and will employ about 20.

The new location will be very similar to the existing one on N. Division. The restaurants specialize in street style tacos and burritos made with their own locally produced tortillas that are produced using local wheat from Shepard's Grain. Daily specials will also be offered as will catering services, beer, tequila and much more.

Blackbird Tavern + Kitchen updates, to bring a traditional taste of the south to Spokane

Big changes are coming to one of Spokane's favorite restaurants. The Blackbird Kitchen + Tavern at 905 N. Washington St in the Broadview Dairy building is currently closed. But, the closure is only temporary as they plan to re-open, with the same name but a cool new concept in just a couple of weeks.

The Blackbird will re-open on April 16th with a smokehouse and traditional southern barbeque menu. We're told these updates have been the plan since they opened in the Summer of 2015. " We said from the start we wanted to change concepts every few years " said owner Patrick McPherson in a recent press release. And, it should be good with wood-fired smokers running 24 hours a day and executive chef Molly Patrick, a native of Macon, GA remaining in charge of the kitchen.

Smoked items will include brisket, pork, jackfruit, hot links, spare ribs, chicken and more. They'll even have their own house made BBQ sauces like Kansas City style, spicy Asian, mustard and coffee. But, the goal they say is to make barbeque that stands on it's own and doesn't need sauce.
Vegetarian and vegan diners will also still find options at The Blackbird as they plan to have several salads. And, they are even working on different preparations for possible dishes including pulled jackfruit and smoked tofu.

In addition to the re-tooling of the menu, they are working on some big changes to the restaurant itself as well. The main entrance will be relocated from the front to the patio side and many updates will be done throughout the restaurant. Also, now guests will order at a counter or kiosk before sitting down with the option of full service for the remainder of the experience. They say the new concept and menu will allow The Blackbird to become less formal, more casual and " a lot more fun ".

A full bar, beer and wine , banquet rooms will remain available as will their popular weekend brunch, which will remain a full service dining experience. The barbeque menu is an exciting change but fans of some of their current menu might still be able to find their favorites at Manito Tap House ( 3011 S. Grand ) as it's the sister restaurant of The Blackbird.

Former Post Falls Factory Outlets bouncing back quickly with even more new businesses

It seems like a just a few weeks ago I found myself writing on here about a few new businesses opening at the former Post Falls Factory Outlets. But, it's already time for another update as we're seeing and finding out about even more places planning to open there.

I'm referring only to the smaller Post Falls Factory Outlet building at the corner of Pleasant View and Riversbend in Post Falls. The larger North Idaho Outlets, now known as the Tedder Business Center, will likely be reserved for a future post as there isn't as much to report there right now.

As of earlier this year the Post Falls Factory Outlets are under new ownership and are presently being marketed under the name Riversbend Commerce Park. Leasing work is under way and it's paying off as here the places are now known to be opening stores / offices in building-

Brothers Flooring ( they are currently open in Spokane, this will be a second store )

Salvage 7 ( vintage store mentioned in last post, now open )

So, while it's no Mall of America it's safe to say this space is bouncing back from it's dead mall days. There is also more space available for lease with active marketing work being done by Select Properties of Coeur d' Alene. New mixed use building planned for Spokane's SoDo neighborhood

Currently a mostly empty lot, a large new mixed use building, will soon rise on the NE side of the intersection at 2nd Ave & Bernard in Downtown/SoDo. Set to be called the Pacific Building, this new structure will be directly adjacent to the Armory building which today houses Laser Quest and the Wild Walls climbing gym.

The plans call for a 5 story building with retail space ,offices and residential condos. Precision Palates currently occupies a small building on the same lot and will subsequently move into a portion of the retail space in this new building once it is built. No other set in stone mention yet about what other businesses might open there. Space is already available for lease / sale and we'll likely have more info about that in another post coming soon.   

Super 1 Foods to open new Athol store this week

They're almost done.... the Super 1 Foods grocery store chain will open a new location in our area this week. Marking the 19th store for the Hayden based chain, and the first major grocery store to open in the growing North Idaho town of Athol.

Super 1 Foods Athol is a 57,000 square foot store and the anchor of the new Crossroads development on the northeast side of the US 95/ ID 54 interchange, a few miles north of Coeur d' Alene. The store will serve the surrounding small communities and will likely deem popular among travelers arriving at the nearby Silverwood Theme Park during the Summer months. The store also means more jobs for the area with about 125 planned to be employed there.

Like other Super 1 Foods grocery stores the Athol store will office a full deli, seafood department, meat department, natural/organic food section and a bakery. But, it will also have a large beer and wine area with growler fill station, pharmacy and a Ace Hardware branded hardware section. Like all other Super 1 stores this store will be open 24 hours a day.

Right now the store seems a bit lonely on it's parcel, but not for long. The surrounding acreage is to be developed in a large commercial development. There isn't a set timeline for openings but plans call for a hotel, travel plaza type gas station and many pad sites for restaurants, banks, medical office or possibly even a few smaller retailers. Alt 96.1 launches with format switch at iHeartRadio Spokane

Spokane has a new radio station, and it's a format that hasn't been in out market for the last few years. iHeartRadio has re-branded their station at 96.1 into Alt 96.1, a radio station with an adult alternative / alt rock format. Also, the station has been re-assigned new call sign KFOO.

Previously, the 96.1 was a country format known as Kix 96.1 which has historically had the lowest ranking of the 3 country stations broadcasting in Spokane. Kix 96.1 has had a 1.5 market share, lacking behind the top station 99.9 Coyote Country with their 5.0 market share. But, iHeartRadio intends to keep a country station on the air in Spokane. That station has moved to 99.3 which is actually a translator station of KZFS 1280 AM. 1280/99.3 launched not long ago and had a short run as a contemporary Christian station. The country station will now be called Kix 99.3 .

Alt 96.1 began broadcasting at the beginning of March and in addition to the alterative music format will air a syndicated morning program called The Woody Show which broadcasts out of Los Angeles. Prime advertising spots are available on Alt 96.1 and the other iHeartRadio Spokane stations with info on that available on

Etailz to relocate HQ to Spokane Valley

Etailz is leaving Spokane, but have no fear the growing company isn't going far. Etailz is beginning a remodeling project to move into a larger office space in Spokane Valley. The company says they have outgrown their current HQ in the historic McKinstry Station building at 850 E. Spokane Falls Blvd. . No word on who will replace them there.

The new Etailz HQ will provide workspaces for all of the company's 250 plus employees and should be ready for occupancy sometime this Summer. This new office will occupy 37479 square feet in the Sullivan Business Center at 2818 N. Sullivan, which was Itron's factory space several years ago . This new HQ location is also strategic as the company already leases some warehouse space not from here in Spokane Business & Industrial Park.

Etailz , which was once known as greencupboards describes themselves as a leading online marketplace retailer. They also offer advanced technology and strategys to help grow there customers sales on Amazon, Jet, Ebay, Walmart and Alibaba.

While Etailz HQ is located here in Spokane, they are a part of the larger parent company Trans World Entertainment Corp of New York. Trans World Entertainment acquired Etailz in 2016 for $75 million. But, despite the far off ownership, Etailz has managed to remain a separate entity. Trans World Entrainment Corp. is also the owner of FYE and Suncoast Entertainment brands which we're recoginaizable largely mall based retail brands.

Incrediburger and a coffee chain to open at the newly built Ramsey Crossing in Coeur d' Alene

The relatively small plot of along Appleway, just northeast of the Northwest Blvd exit off of I-90 in Coeur d' Alene has been proven to be a great spot for new restaurants to open. Two chains that are new to the area have already opened there, one being the Inland Northwest's first Cracker Barrel which opened last fall. And, the other is Coeur d' Alene's first Firehouse Subs location ( Spokane's opened a few months earlier ).

Cracker Barrel is in there own building but the newly opened Firehouse Subs is in the end cap of an otherwise vacant strip mall, which can be seen above. And, it's those vacant spaces where we are finding two more businesses coming soon. Here's the details on those-

Incrediburger & Eggs to add second location in Coeur d' Alene

Just weeks after the first ever Incrediburger & Eggs opened to much fanfare in Downtown Spokane, another location is already in the works for the Ramsey Crossing development of Coeur d' Alene. This new restaurant will be right next door to Firehouse Subs.

We're told the menu will be very similar to the Downtown Spokane location. Incrediburger is a fast casual style eatery with gourmet burgers, egg sandwiches and boozy milkshakes.

On a side note Incrediburger is a business venture of local chef and restaurant owner Adam Hegsted.  Hegsted is also developing another restaurant in Coeur d' Alene as he plans to open a place called Honey & Co. in Downtown CdA where The Cellar once was. Neither Honey & Co. or the new Incrediburger location have set opening dates just yet so stay tuned....

Thomas Hammer Coffee to add a new location

We are still waiting on the details but have confirmed that the Spokane based Thomas Hammer Coffee chain will join the same building as Firehouse Subs and Incrediburger.

It looks like this store will be much like their others and include a drive thru lane but we'll re-post when they share more.

Could more new places be coming?

It's very likely that more places could be coming to the same Coeur d' Alene neighborhood. In fact, the non-restaurant related Idaho Central Credit Union just broke ground for a new branch and office building across Appleway from Ramsey Crossing.

There is also a vacant lot still for lease directly at the corner of Ramsey and Appleway and another new strip mall is still largely up for lease to the east on Appleway just past Lowe's ( where the new Pool World store is ).

All of this just a short distance north of Riverstone where a handful of construction projects are also underway. So, stay tuned...

Top 8 restaurant chains that Spokane wants

Recently I took to the Inland Northwest Business Watch social media pages and the Spokane sub-reddit with a question. That question was what restaurant chain would you want to see come to Spokane?

Below is what we found. And, to explain why I asked, it was to get people talking and while most are the same places I hear all the time some we're kind of a surprise.

8. Texas Roadhouse

This one surprised me a bit as there is already a location in Coeur d' Alene. But, it's true Spokane has none and the Coeur d' Alene location is usually packed.

I've heard on and off for the last few years of possible plans for a Texas Roadhouse location in Spokane nothing has come to fruition. From what one commenter mentioned is since the Coeur d' Alene store is so successful they don't want to put in Spokane to take away from the sales in CdA. I can't say if that's true or not, but it is probably a factor,

Texas Roadhouse is a Louisville,KY based chain ( shouldn't they be based in Texas? ) and founded 25 years ago in Indiana, with around 500 locations in the United States and some Asian / Middle Eastern countries.

7. Bojangles Famous Chicken n' Biscuits

Bojangles is about as Southern fried chicken of a restaurant as you can get out of a chain establishment. The North Carolina based restaurant chain has been in business since 1977 and today is a publicly traded company with over 600 restaurants.

So, will Bojangles ever come to Spokane? Well probably not very soon as their current closest store is in Tennessee. In fact over half of their locations are within the state of North Carolina, but they are building a bit of cult following nationally so never say never.

6. Dunkin Donuts

Probably because of Starbucks' huge market share in the Northwest, our area is one of the few spots in the country that doesn't have a Dunkin Donuts. I'm told there was one in Spokane a long time ago but they have all since moved on.

The Canton,MA based chain is known for it's coffee drinks ( often cheaper then the other chain's ) and donuts. Although they have been experimenting with dropping the donuts portion of their name lately. Dunkin Donuts was founded in 1950 and today has over 11000 stores worldwide.

Their parent company , Dunkin' Brands also operates the Baskin Robbins ice cream shop chain, which does have locations in the Spokane / Coeur d' Alene area. But, will Dunkin Donuts ever come to Spokane? It could happen as they are still in growth mode but there are no plans as of right now.

5. Dave & Busters

When Northtown Mall underwent their remodel of the north side of the mall a couple of years ago a lot of people thought a Dave & Busters would surely open there as they created some new restaurant spaces. Sadly that was not the case as today Outback Steakhouse, Bonefish Grill and Buffalo Wild Wings are in those spaces.

But, could Dave & Busters come to Spokane? The very well could as they just opened a location in Anchorage  and are already open for business in Auburn,Wa. . I'm not sure exactly what is holding them back from coming to Spokane.

Dave & Busters is a Dallas based chain lead by CEO Steven King ( not that Steven King... ) . They are a publicly traded company with over 100 locations almost all in the United States a couple in Canada. Their stores are sports bars that a sort of an adult version of Chuck E. Cheese. They are the corporate sponsor of the UFC and have been in business since the early 80's

4. NONE!

Many who I asked said Spokane doesn't need any more chain restaurants. And, while I support local businesses first and encourage people to do so, chains aren't going anywhere anytime soon and do employ many in our community.

So, all I can say to do this one is after reading this post do some research into local alternatives to the chains. Check out D Lish's, Chicken-n-Mo or DeLeon's  as they are all great local options and there are so many more.

3. In n' Out Burger

Founded in 1948 the Irvine,CA based fast food burger chain has grown a lot in recent years, but still in a not to fast pace. Today, most of their 329 locations are still in California and Nevada although they have grown towards us opening a location in Medford,OR not too long ago.

In n' Out's menu consists of three burger variety's hamburger, cheeseburger and " double double " . Burgers can come with thousand island dressing and don't forget to try out getting your burger " animal style ". There is also sides, shakes and more.

So, will In n' Out Burger come to Spokane? I'm going to say yes but give it at least a couple more years probably more. And, don't believe the rumors...

2. Cheesecake Factory

Rumors have swirled around many locations that a Cheesecake Factory would open at in Spokane. That's because the chain has had locations as close as Western Washington for several years now. So will Cheesecake Factory come to Spokane? it's likely they will sometime but there are no plans as of yet.

Cheesecake Factory is a Calabasas Hills,CA based company that has been in business since the late 70's. As the name would imply they are famous for cheesecakes and desserts but in reality are full services restaurants with burgers, steaks, pasta and more, including alcoholic drinks.

1. Chick-fil-a

Many in Spokane apparently want to live by Chick-fil-a's motto " eat more chicken " . The chain has over 2200 locations and is based in Atlanta,GA . The company started in Georgia in the mid 1940's by a different name and today has locations all over the country, except here in Spokane.

They have however been hit by controversy from some stances they have taken due to the founders religious beliefs, because of this Chick-fil-a restaurants are closed on Sundays.

So will Chick-fil-a ever come to Spokane? it's likely it will happen someday but there are no plans right now. A rumor swirled after the developer of the purposed Commons on Regal development showed a building plan with a blurred version of the Chick-fil-a logo on it. That has turned out to be false but I do think the chain has looked at for sites here.

It's also important to note that Chick-fil-a actually already has a location in our region. There is a lesser known location on the campus of the University of Idaho in Moscow. Still a drive but for die hard fans...

Indigo Urgent Care to open a Spokane location

The Indigo Urgent Care chain is planning to open their first location in Spokane soon. The chain, which is a division of Multicare Health System has a network of 16 locations, however all of which are currently in the Seattle / Tacoma area.

Indigo Urgent Care will take an approximately 5000 square foot space in the newly built strip mall at 9420 N Newport Hwy, joining BECU as a tenant. Another 1850 square foot storefront in the building remains up for lease. There isn't an opening date just yet but they plan to create 10 exam rooms, common areas and support offices.

Indigo Urgent Care locations treat minor health issues for all ages with locations open from 8am-8pm 365 days a year.  The company says they keep you first with drinks including gourmet cappuccino and free wifi with docking stations in the waiting lounge area. And, some of the latest medical equipment to get their guests the care they need quickly.

This new location is interestingly called the " Spokane-North " location so we assume a South Hill locations is planned but more on that after we can confirm it. Indigo's parent Multicare Health System is also the owner of Deaconess and Valley Hospitals among many other clinics in the Spokane area.

Life returns to the Ridpath as the Ridpath Club Apartments are now leasing

Almost 10 years ago the Ridpath Hotel closed it's doors after being Spokane's longest continuously operating hotel. During the decade since most in Spokane know it's been one legal battle after another, but finally developer Ron Wells' re-development plan has pushed through and we can now report that the new apartments in the former hotel building are now available for lease!

The former hotel has been almost entirely converted into apartments and now operates as the Ridpath Club Apartments, being managed by NAI Black. Renters can fill out applications now for move in starting around April 13th. The building is 13 stories and now houses 206 units of varying sizes, including something not very common yet in Spokane, micro-apartments. The micro apartments are just 220 square feet and are perfect for just one person. In addition 300 square foot studios, one bedroom and even a lone two bedroom apartments are also now available for lease.

Living at the new Ridpath Club Apartments will be affordable too as apartments start as low as $495 a month for the micro units ( if your income qualifies ). Rent is restricted based on income, although some units have been set aside as market rate and open to anyone. All utilities , as well as fiber internet are included in the rental rate. Parking spaces will also be available to rent.

The apartments are fully update and have appliances in place with wheelchair accessible units also available. Laundry facilities are on site as is a multi use room and a bicycle storage area. But, likely one of the top selling points of the Ridpath Club Apartments will be the location. The building is in the heart of Downtown Spokane, just perfect for Downtown workers or those wanting to be close to action. Riverfront Park and River Park Square are only about 3 or 4 blocks away and bars, restaurants and shopping are most everywhere.

And speaking of resturants, the 206 apartments aren't the only thing coming soon to the building that once was the Ridpath Hotel. The ground floor space is also being remodeled but for a commercial use, there local chef / restaurant owners Jeremy and Kate Hansen will soon open Ridpath Brasserie and Gin Bar. Like most things with the Ridpath, there have been some delays and now the restaurant / bar will likely open in late Spring or early Summer. We'll update with more that business when their opening gets closer.

Carter's Oshkosh B'gosh store and a new Brothers Office Pizzeria open tomorrow in Spokane Valley

Looking for a couple of new places to check out? Then head to area around the Spokane Valley Mall tomorrow ( Thurs. Mar. 15th ) as a highly anticipated new mall store and a new pizza business not far away will both be having there first day's open.

These 2 popular children, babies and toddler clothing brands will open there first duel branded store in Spokane market within the Spokane Valley Mall. In fact this is Oshkosh B'gosh's first retail store in Spokane, Carter's however already has a store at Northtown Square, across from Northtown Mall.

The new store is located on the first floor of the mall right by the center court area. The space is about 5000 square feet.

Brother's Office Pizzeria
Maybe a mile or so from Spokane Valley Mall, on Mansfield Ave. nearby the Valley YMCA is a new commercial building. The first tenant there, a workout facility called Specialty Training,Inc. is already open for business but now the second tenant is ready to open.

That will be the 3rd location of Brother's Office Pizzeria, their other stores are at 32nd & Pines on the south side of the Valley and in Liberty Lake. They offer a menu of several handcrafted specialty pizza's, build your own pizza's , sandwiches, salads and a small amount of other items. Adult beverages are also available .

Wonder Bread building renovations almost complete, leasing to begin

The former Wonder Bread building at 821 W. Mallon has been undergoing a dramatic renovation and expansion for the last several months. But the building, which is now known as Wonder Spokane, will be wrapping up their project this Summer bringing new office space along with an artesian market space. The market will be called Wonder Market and will be a 12,000 square foot space for local retail and food vendors, we'll likely have more on that coming soon.

But, first the office space as it was announced just today that the owners have partnered with commercial real estate advisor JLL and NAI Black to begin marketing and leasing that space. They say the arrival of this office space will being some relief to the tight market for large scale office space locally. And, what's exciting about the large office space is they even hope the space might be used by a tenant from Seattle, Portland, San Fransisco or similar seeking to expand into the a more affordable growing market like Spokane.

Wonder Spokane will feature three full stories and a large basement for office users, totally 100,000 square feet of new space geared towards growing creative companies. The space will offer high ceilings, abundant natural light and will be unique as it's a historic over 100 year old building. Plentiful parking will be provided on site and the building will be topped by a rooftop deck featuring views of Riverfront Park and Downtown Spokane.

Update and peek inside of the Cooper George Apartment renovations

This week we at Inland Northwest Business Watch we're given a tour of quite possibly one of the coolest building renovation projects going on locally. That project is the renovations of the Cooper George building at 707 W. Main by Deaconess Hospital.

The Cooper George was originally opened in 1952 also as an apartment building, over time the building transitioned to a senior living / assisted living ending that run as a complex called South Hill Senior Living only a couple of years ago. But now, an Oregon based owner and Baker Construction have been running full renovation of the building. This time back into an apartment complex, but it'll be an apartment complex that's in a lot of ways unique for Spokane.

The apartments will go by the name Cooper George Apartments with 144 total apartments. Studio, 1 bed and 2 bedroom apartments will be available and tenants will be able to move in April 15th. And, I'm told there has been a lot of interest already, as is to be expected as after taking the tour I can honestly say the building is cool, the views are awesome and the location is basically un-beatable just a few short blocks away from the Downtown Spokane core.

In addition to the 144 apartments there is some very limited commercial space that will be leased out on the ground floor. One space with a kitchen intended for something like a café and a medical office / retail space on the back side of the first floor. But, the apartment tenants will also be able to use the ground floor as a sort of hang out, I'm told they even plan to hang the historic Cooper George sign that used to be up on top of the building on the walls of the first floor. Leasing offices, a conference room, Amazon storage lockers and a fitness center are also planned to be on the first floor.

Upper floors will be apartments until you get to the roof, there a rooftop deck will allow residents to relax and overlook Downtown Spokane. There will also be a place to store / work on bikes, but for those with a car, parking is included in the price of rent. I'm told only a few units will not include a parking space.

The apartments are modern spaces that take advantages of the good bones of the historic building. In fact the building is just a block from I-90 but there is no highway noise given the thick sturdy construction. Inside the apartments are stainless steel appliances , gas ranges, washer & dryer , central heating, air conditioning, white quartz countertops and more all in a secure building. Oh, and they are pet friendly too.

So, with all of that how much will it cost to rent an apartment at the new Cooper George? It depends partially on what floor you want, floor plan, etc... . But, rents will start at $920 per month for a 415 square foot studio, 1 bed starts at $1235 and 2 bed starts at $1675, but parking and all utilites are included in the rent.

New Taco Bell may replace Five Mile Heights Pizza Parlor

Plans are calling for a new Taco Bell location to be built in place of what is today the Five Mile Heights Pizza Parlor. But, the key word here is may as this is still very much in the planning phase.

CLC Restaurants of Missoula, the owner of all of the local Taco Bell franchises, has filed " pre-development conference " documents with the City of Spokane to build a new Taco Bell on the site, which is located at 6404 N. Ash.

The plans call for a demolition of the current structure and the replacement with a new construction Taco Bell. The new Taco Bell would be 2573 square feet with a drive thru lane, indoor seating for 52 and a small amount of outdoor seating. Parking would be added on the south side of the lot along the new building and few spaces up front near the roadway.

So what about Five Mile Heights Pizza? It's a locally owned pizza business that's been a part of the Five Mile neighborhood for quite sometime. Well, we haven't been able to get a reply back from their ownership just yet, but we have several sources saying they are closing up shop. According to our sources the pizza restaurant is to close at the end of April. We will continue to work on confirming this however...

We don't have information about when construction will begin, or an opening date for the new Taco Bell. So, keep checking back as we will continue to follow this project...

Logan Tavern opens near Gonzaga

The building at 1305 N. Hamilton has been several businesses since the landmark Bulldog Tavern closed in 2012. The last place, Scotty's Doghouse left late last year and now another group is giving it a go with this weeks opening of the Logan Tavern.

The Logan Tavern's owners have done some remodeling to the interior of the building and are now open as a neighborhood style hang out. And, even though they've only been open for about two days now we are already hearing very positive feedback about this new place.

Logan Tavern is named for the Logan neighborhood, where the bar is located. The tavern has a full bar with some specialty drinks and a food menu that they describe as traditional pub food kicked up a notch. There is several burgers and sandwiches like an ultimate grilled cheese and the kennel wrap. There is some wonderful sounding appetizers, soups and salads and more. There is even a couple of dessert items like Pint O' Donuts.

Sketchers Outlet now open in Spokane Valley

The Spokane area's second Sketchers Outlet store is now open for business in Spokane Valley. The new outlet can be found in the Evergreen Marketplace shopping center at 14008 E. Sprague Ave, in the same plaza as Office Depot.

The new store is roughly 10,000 square feet and carries the full line of shoes manufactured by Sketchers. The company produces casual and athletic shoes for men, women and children and their outlet store's merchandise is often priced lower then at other retailers. Sketchers now boasts about 2600 retail stores and the first Spokane location also remains open for business at 9324 N. Division, it opened about 3 years ago.

Boombox Pizza to open in Downtown Spokane

A hip new pizza place will be opening soon in Downtown Spokane. The local establishment, Boombox Pizza, is under construction now and they are planning for a opening sometime in April.

Boombox Pizza will be in the former Revolver Bar space at 221 N. Division, right in the heart of a section of Downtown known for bars and clubs. And, given the young party crowd Boombox Pizza will be open late, till 2am. In fact, the new business will have a liquor license of their own serving serving a full bar of cocktails, beer and wine.

But Boombox Pizza won't be just a party place as they will also serve up delicious pizzas for lunch and dinner as well. The menu isn't out just yet but we're told it will consist of pizzas, wings, salads and more.

The Yuppy Puppy has opened their new store in Downtown Spokane. While they still have their main store in North Spokane this new store can be found at 830 W. Sprague. It has a retail area, dog wash and grooming will be starting very soon.

Heritage Bar & Kitchen coming to Downtown Spokane

Watch for another new, exciting bar & restaurant coming in just a few short months to Downtown Spokane. Heritage Bar & Kitchen is a new local establishment working on setting up shop in the same building as Whistle Punk Brewing at 122 S. Monroe ( just south of the Montvale Hotel ).

Heritage Bar & Kitchen is hoping to open sometime around May and is to be ran by owners who many years experience in the restaurant industry, although this will be there first official place of their own. The menu is still being worked on but I'm told we can look forward to full flavored family recipes and creative twists on classic dishes. It is to be "pub food done right ".

They will have a full bar, in addition to 8 to 10 beer taps. Also guests will be allowed to take their food from Heritage Bar & Kitchen over to their neighbor Whistle Punk Brewing.

New store specializing video games, retro gaming, movies and more coming to Spokane Valley Mall

While many malls are dying off around the country, Spokane Valley Mall is still chugging right along. And, a new store called Fun Unlimited will surely help bring in even more shoppers.

Fun Unlimited is a independent retailer specializing in video games, video game consoles and even retro games and consoles. But, that's not all as the store also has some books, comics and other merchandise. The business is already open and is relocating to Spokane Valley Mall from Pine Ridge Mall in Chubbuk,Idaho , they currently are hoping to open here around the first part of April.

The store will be relatively small at just over 1400 square feet total on the second floor of the mall. They will take the currently vacant space in-between Journeys shoe store and Uncle's Games. A prime spot for just such as store as Uncle's also attracts a similar clientele. Once open Fun Unlimited also plans to host occasional in store events.

Fun Unlimited isn't the only new thing coming to Spokane Valley Mall either. A new Carter's / Oshkosh B'gosh is under construction on the first floor ( mentioned in a prior post on this site ) and Box Lunch also recently opened on the first floor . Wolf Creek Lodge Steakhouse in Spokane to close

Just a couple of weeks after the closure of Milford’s , Spokane is about to loose another long running local restaurant. Wolf Creek Lodge will be shutting down there Steakhouse on Thor/Freya later this week.

The restaurant shared the sad news via this Facebook post they posted just yesterday-

“All of us want to thank Spokane for 20 years..
We will be saying good bye to great people and dedicated guests on Feb 24th.
We have all created such strong relationships with our guest, with our families, with each other..😘Tom and Lisa thank you.

Autumn Leaf Furnished Apartments to bring new short term housing option to Airway Heights

The same owners as the Turning Leaf Townhome complex on the North side are planning on opening a 3rd location, this time in Airway Heights. The business says they have acquired a small currently under construction apartment complex and will open it as a combination corporate housing / extended stay hotel.

Planned to be called Autumn Leaf Furnished Apartments the complex is located at 12911 W. 13th Ave , just a block off of US 2 and nearby Yoke's . There will be 23 separate apartment style units, all furnished and ready for guests as soon as early March.

Both 1 & 2 bedroom apartments will be available at Autumn Leaf with all the comforts of home and then some, something you don't find in a traditional hotel. The apartments will all have wifi, premium package cable TV, 50" flat panel TV's , housekeeping service and all are pet friendly. In addition to all this guests of Autumn Leaf Furnished Apartments are also given passes to use Airway Fitness, just a short drive away.The location of Autumn Leaf Furnished Apartments will also be a big selling point, with Fairchild AFB, Northern Quest Casino and Spokane International Airport all closeby.

Johanna Beverage to build large new refrigerated building on the West Plains

Johanna Beverage Company is continuing to invest in Spokane. This is because the company has just announced that they will construct a new 37,300 square foot refrigerated storage building here, used to store and stage the company's refrigerated products.

The company, which produces primarily fruit juices will operate the building which will be by their current facility on W. Thorpe Rd, just west of Spokane. It is to be operational by the end of this year and will utilize a steel frame and clad with insulated metal panels to keep the product between 34 and 38 degrees for maximum food safety and energy efficiency.

Cooper Architects of Bellevue did the design work and it will be constructed by Fisher Construction Group of Burlington, WA who also has an office here in Spokane. Fisher Construction Group has experience in the cold storage construction / food processing industry having built several other similar projects throughout the continental US and Alaska.

Johanna Beverage Company has operated their Spokane facility since 2007 and is a branch off of their parent, Johanna Companies based in Flemington, NJ. Halletts Chocolates opens new store in Downtown Spokane

It's been a work in progress for almost a year, but now Halletts Chocolates is offically open for business at their new store in Downtown Spokane, just in time for Valentine's Day.

Halletts Chocolates joins a variety of other businesses as tenants of the ground floor at the New Madison building on the western side of Downtown. Halletts is in the space at 1025 W. 1st Ave which was last used a vintage goods store. The new store will be similar to their only other retail location with a big selection of delicious chocolates and sweets, in addition to a coffee and espresso menu.

The company's other retail store can also still be found in North Spokane at 6704 N. Nevada. All of the chocolates from Halletts are produced locally by in their own factory which is also right here in Spokane. They have been in business for over 30 years and offer products from small single serve up to boxes for gifts and special occasion's.

What will happen to the Division St. Costco after Costco moves? Here is the answer...

By now most of us know that the Costco store at 7619 N. Division is relocating soon to a new construction store at 12020 N. Newport Hwy. That store is already under construction and will be 30,000 square feet larger then the current one. But, since construction on the Newport Hwy store only started recently we don't expect the store move for a few months yet. So, even though Costco will continue to be open for business in the N. Division site for awhile yet there are already several rumors floating around about who will replace that building.

The number one rumor is that Fred Meyer will open a store there as they closed their store nearby on Francis a few years back. And, while they still could, Fred Meyer has not signed on to the building as of this point, so that rumor seems to be false.

In fact, the North Division Costco actually recently appeared as for lease by NAI Black. And, interestingly enough it's listed as a re-development project. The marketing files just show draft site plans so nothing is set in stone but by this it appears the building and property will likely be used for something other then a traditional big box store like it is today. This doesn't mean it won't remain retail, but a mega retailer seems unlikely ( not impossible though ).

The marketing files go on to say that the development could be ready for occupancy as soon as early 2019. The front parking area, where the fuel station is today appears to be planned to re-done with a couple of pad sites ( maybe restaurants ) and a small 7000 sq foot +/- in-line strip mall. The main building has a couple of options, one being left in it's whole 133,000 square foot state and leased as " flex space " meaning just about any kind of tenant, including offices, warehouse or really anything.

The second option would have the main building being divided up, likely into 3 separate units, but still used as flex space. Either way nothing is leased just yet, so nothing is for sure coming there as of right now. And who, if anyone, is looking into opening there is a secret. It will however be interesting to see what happens as the building is in one of Spokane's busiest corridors so it should fill quickly after Costco leaves.

New ice cream roll establishment planned near Gonzaga

Spokane's first rolled ice cream restaurant is under construction now off of N. Division, nearby Gonzaga University. The new business will be called Yummy Ice Cream Rolls and will at the Logan Square shopping center at 1601 N. Division, in the suite next door to Einstein Bros. Bagels.

Yummy Ice Cream Rolls is a locally owned and operated business that is hoping to be in open sometime in March. Ice cream rolls originated in Thailand but have been kind of trending in the US lately. The process is where the ice cream is poured out onto cold metal where it is then rolled up, usually with other items mixed in, and some toppings / sauces then placed on top.

Dick's Sporting Good's to open a store in North Pointe Plaza

The Spokane area soon will have 2 locations of the Dick's Sporting Goods chain. Dick's currently has a construction permit pending to remodel and open a new store at the North Pointe Plaza shopping center. The chain will take over the former Sports Authority store there with is an 45,658 square foot space on the southern side of the large shopping center.

Dick's Sporting Goods other local area store is in Spokane Valley at 14014 E. Indiana Ave. The company is a Pennsylvania based chain of mid box size sporting goods stores. Dick's stores lean towards more athletic sporting goods merchandise with athletic apparel, bicycles, shoes, outdoor equipment and much more.

The company had around 600 locations as of last update. Interestingly enough Dick's Sporting Goods actually purchased the intellectual property of Sports Authority at auction in 2016. We don't have the opening date for this new store, nor do we have employment numbers but expect construction to start soon.

Spokane's first Menchie's Frozen Yogurt opens this weekend

The Encino,Ca based Menchie's Frozen Yogurt chain is just about ready to open their first location in the Spokane market. The company is a franchised brand that has been growing a lot recently with well over 500 locations world wide. The chain even has some high profile locations in places like Dubai and at Universal City Walk in Orlando.

The Spokane location of Menchie's Frozen Yogurt is located at 9986 N. Newport Hwy in the North Pointe Plaza, near Safeway. The business occupies a 1600 square foot space there that was built out by Recon Construction of Liberty Lake. This location has been under construction for a few months now and will officially open for business this Sunday, Feb 11th at noon.

Menchie's Frozen Yogurt are self serve frozen yogurt bars, however they are known for their flavors, of which they have a lot. There is also low fat, low carb, sorbet and no sugar added options and good size amount of toppings. They also sell frozen yogurt cakes for most any occupation.

IncrediBurger and Eggs to have their grand opening Feb 8th

It's one of the most highly anticipated new restaurants coming to Spokane. IncrediBurger and Eggs is a more casual concept from one of Spokane's most successful chefs, Chef Adam Hegsted. The restaurant has been under construction for the last few months in the former Dempsey's Brass Rail space at 909 W. 1st in Downtown Spokane.

And, now we know when their grand opening will be!
IncrediBurger and Eggs announced last night that they will open Feb 8th at 7am!

As the name implies the menu is primarily driven by burgers and eggs. There is about 10 delicious sounding gourmet burger choices , 6 breakfast sandwiches and a few other options. There is plenty of sides, salads and yes even boozy milkshakes in addition to other adult beverage choices. This isn't your average burger joint either as IncrediBurger and Eggs' menu includes unique options like a PB & J Burger , beef fat French fries and so much more. And to add to the awesomeness all items on the menu are under $8.99

We have also heard there will be a soft opening before this date but are still working to confirm this.

Will anything ever come to the former Hooters in the Valley?

One of the more common questions people ask me is if anything is coming to the now abandoned former Hooters restaurant visible along I-90 by Sullivan Rd. . There hasn't been a tenant there since 2014 when a short lived sports bar and adjacent breakfast restaurant closed their doors. And the Hooters franchise itself left a bit before that.

The question about this building intensified recently as the building owner cleaned up the graffiti and gave the whole place a kind gray paint job. But, sadly this looks to have been done mostly to make the place more marketable and as of right now it is still up for lease.

However, a recent real estate listing on CRE web site implies a new push to fill the building, but not with a new restaurant. This time around it's up for sale or lease to be remodeled into office space / medical office space or retail. The listing shows a couple of drafts that can be considered for the building, one would be very similar to a strip mall with what looks like 3 retail bays. Another option shows a 3 suite office center with a common lobby area right in the middle.

These are only drafts however so they are not exactly what will come there. They are however signs of hope that something will be there soon as these both seem like they would be more in demand and fit the neighborhood which is now mostly office spaces and apartments ( a lot of apartments.... ).

So, with that said if your interested in opening a business there ( I'm not affiliated with the owner nor am I in the real estate field ) it is available via Kimele & Hagood Real Estate. It's presently listed for sale at $2,000,000 or for lease at $10- $18 per square foot. It is one of the more visible buildings in the Spokane area with almost 80,000 cars per day passing by on I-90 and lots of new residents in the immediate area.

Sweet Peaks Ice Cream to open a location in Downtown Spokane

A small Montana based chain of ice cream shops called Sweet Peaks Ice Cream will be opening soon in Downtown Spokane. The company, which is based in Whitefish,MT has leased the space next door to Durkin's Liquor Bar in the 400 block of W. Main and after remodeling they hope to open there around April of this year.

Sweet Peaks Ice Cream is known for their handcrafted ice creams with both classic flavors and more seasonal flavor options, all made by Sweet Peaks themselves. Many of the seasonal flavors are unique challenging the big chain ice cream shops in providing a fresher, better local alternative.

This will be their 7th location, not including their food truck that operates over in Montana. Five of their current locations are in Montana with 1 being open during the warmer months only in Downtown Coeur d' Alene. Unlike some other ice cream shop chains, many of the ice creams they produce are also sold online in addition to a selection gift cards, shirts and hats, etc...

New business openings, closings & updates - Facebook edition - Jan. 29th

It's time for another look at the businesses I've shared to the Inland Northwest Business Watch page on Facebook since the last one of these updates.

Here are the businesses-

Millwood Grocery & Spirits will be opening soon in the same building that the Millwood 7-11 once was at 3409 N Argonne. The new business advertises that they will have slushies, shakes, hot foods, liquor, beer cave and lotto.

Riverfront Pharmacy is relocating to 1802 N. Monroe. They are moving from a location on Spokane Falls Blvd. and they say they should be open on N. Monroe later this month.

Silverlake Pizza & Pretzels will be opening soon in Coeur d' Alene's Silver Lake Mall. This new business is coming from the same owner as Philly Express.

Metro PCS has a new dealer now open for business at 1514 NW Blvd in Spokane

The Outpost is a new business selling mattresses and vintage décor from a storefront at 3015 N. Monroe

Frontier Behavioral Health has opened their new clinic / office building at 2128 E. Sprague.

Spokane Nutrishop and Cyrotherapy has opened their doors on the South Hill at 4314 S. Regal #202

Blue Cat Vintage will be opening soon at 1919 E. Sprague Ave and will sell vintage, décor and a lot more. The store will be about 6000 square feet so it'll be a pretty good sized place and nice addition to the transitioning neighborhood.

Rage Spokane will be Spokane's first " rage room " type of business and they will be opening soon at 6565 N. Perry in North Spokane.

Garland Mart is a new convenience store now open at 1006 W. Garland .

Solace Mead & Cider has closed their doors in the Kendall Yards Business District. The 2 business that owned Solace together decided to re-focus more on production and will still likely be a vendor at the Kendall Yards Night Market this Summer.

Siren Body Jewelry, Tattoo & Piercing Studio has opened for business in Dalton Gardens,ID at 5624 N Government Way Suite 8.

Quackers Convenience Corner is a new c-store with some quick foods. They will be located at 705 E. Prairie in Hayden.

Idaho Irepair will open in early Feb. at Coeur d' Alene's Riverstone development. As the name implies they will do Apple and some other cell phone repair services.

Millwood Brewing Company , is a new brewery now open at 9013 E. Fredrick in Millwood. Hopefully going to do a full post about this soon.

DollarPlus is a new dollar store which should be opening next month at 2710 E. 57th Ave. on the South Hill. We've made an attempt to get some info from them about this new shop so we can create a post about this too, but we're still waiting...

White Pine Coffee Shoppe is opening soon in Midtown Coeur d' Alene at 814 N. 4th St.

Eyemart Express a franchise of eyewear shops has opened their first Spokane location at 7808 N. Division.

Ten/6 is a new Cajun themed breakfast and lunch restaurant coming soon to Midtown Coeur d' Alene at 726 N. 4th ( can't wait... )

Sweet Frostings Blissful Bakeshop has opened a new mall kiosk inside Northtown Mall. They also still have the location at Spokane Valley Mall. Cupcakes are their specialty but there is also a lot more deliciousness.

A new Burger King owned by HMS Host has opened in the main rotunda area of Spokane International Airport.
