Large new UPS distribution center to be first tenant of Douglass Legacy Park

 Once complete the new Douglass Legacy Park industrial development on the West Plains will offer over 1.5 million square feet of new class A warehouse space. From Ecommerce to Aerospace and pretty much everything in between this development stands to be a game changer for Spokane County.

Several buildings for the park are already rising on the 127 acre site along S. Thomas Mallon Rd just south of the Spokane International Airport. Most of those are still under construction or empty but recently we've learned of the first company that will be moving into space at the development. That company is one of the largest and most well known shipping companies in world, UPS.

UPS will lease 96,000 square feet of space taking over all of "Building 15" at 9210 W. Harlan Ln. . The new West Plains UPS distribution center will be the fourth center covering sections of the Spokane / Coeur d'Alene area as original UPS centers exist on N. Bradley Rd. in Spokane Valley and N. Ramsey Rd in Coeur d'Alene. Additionally, UPS just opened a new 41,000 square foot distribution center in 2020 at 192 N. Beck Rd in Post Falls.

A recent article about the new West Plains UPS center in the Spokane Journal of Business ( that article here - may have a paywall ) indicated that the new facility will open by the end of the year and will also feature a customer service center, primarily for dropping off and picking up packages. 

And, it looks like we might have more announcements coming from the Douglass Legacy Park project in the near future as the project's official website indicates that a portion of building 14 is also leased. Northwest Specialty Hospital starts construction on a new ambulatory surgery center

 Northwest Specialty Hospital has officially started construction on their latest expansion, a new ambulatory surgery center. The new center will be located on a previously vacant plot of lot directly to east of the facility's main campus in Post Falls at 1624 E. Mullan Ave. 

The new surgery center will be about 9600 square feet according to building permits and will be cost approximately $6 million to construct. Stancraft Construction Group of Hayden is shown on permits as the project's general contractor. 

A recent article about the facility's groundbreaking in the Coeur d' Alene Press newspaper indicated that the center will be used for surgery's that don't require overnight stays and will have two outpatient operating rooms with the option for future expansion. The new surgery center is planned to open sometime in early 2024.

Northwest Specialty Hospital also recently opened a new medical facility on Super 1 Lp. in Athol. That center opened in early March and is the hospital's third location and offers both family medicine services and an urgent care center.

The Milkshake Parlor coming soon to the Indian Trail neighborhood

 The Milkshake Parlor is an exciting new locally owned business that is coming soon to the Indian Trail neighborhood in Spokane. The new business plans to offer 20 different milkshake flavors with toppings and served in take home mason jars.

Additionally, they plan to offer cups of ice cream with the same topping offerings and cookies, cupcakes, etc... from Bake My Day, which is another cool local business based out of Spokane Valley. The Milkshake Parlor will be located at 9021 N. Indian Trail Rd. , in-between Subway and Safeway in the Sundance shopping center. Currently they plan to open in the space at the beginning of July

Good 'Dilla planning to open new restaurant in the River Park Square food court

 While we love how far the Spokane food truck scene has come, we also love to hear when a local truck is able to expand and take the next step into a more physical year round space. Several have done it successfully and now the Good 'Dilla food truck is becoming the next.

The quesadilla food truck Good 'Dilla recently leased a space with the River Park Sqaure food court in Downtown Spokane. They currently plan to open their new restaurant there sometime around June or July of this year. The new location will be in the space that was previously Mac Daddy's, that eatery is still open and recently opened on the first floor of the Downtown mall in the much larger former Rock City Grill space.

We checked in with Good 'Dilla and we're told the new location will offer more quesadilla options, desserts, sides and beer / wine dependent on when a liquor license is approved. Fans of Good 'Dilla's food truck will also be happy as they also plan to continue operating the truck at local events including The Thursday Market in South Perry every Thursday from May-Oct. , and the Kendall Yards Night Market every other week.

High Voltage Ice Creamery to open in Spokane Valley

 Gage Lang and his crew have been "killing it" for years with Spokane Valley based Breauxdoo Bakery. It all began awhile ago as a small delivery only business and in October of last year they expanded into their first retail storefront at 14109 E. Sprague #7a in Spokane Valley. Now they're growing once more with a new ice cream shop planned to open soon at another location also in the Valley.

The company has leased space at 15310 E. Marietta Ave. #4 , next to Jump For Joy and nearby the intersection of Marietta & Sullivan. The new space is 3000 square feet and will actually be shared by two businesses, the main being High Voltage Ice Creamery and the other Hells Bakery. Hells will be a wholesale baking space for Breauxdoo's production and commercial kitchen use for food entrepreneurs to produce their products. The name they say is a homage to Chef Gordon Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen.

The ice cream shop, High Voltage Ice Creamery will be open to the public and set to open in early May. The business will create their own small batch ice creams and offer about 20 seats for indoor dining. Also, we're even hearing that popular local artist Godfitti is adding a mural or similar within the space.

Indigenous Eats opening second location in River Park Square

 Indigenous Eats, a popular local Native American restaurant has announced the opening of a second location in Downtown Spokane. The new eatery will be located within the food court at River Park Square (808 W. Main, Suite FC-5) nearby Miso Fresh Asian. This new location is currently planned to open sometime in mid-May.

Indigenous Eats is known for its delicious Native American comfort food, including the staple frybread with their popular huckleberry sauce, or as a base with their sage forward bison entree. The restaurant even claimed first place in the Inlander's "Best of" reader poll for best new restaurant in 2022-2023. The current and original Indigenous Eats can be found open seven days a week at 829 E. Boone Suite E in Spokane's Logan neighborhood.

"Our goal has always been to bring our passion for Native American comfort food to as many people as possible, and this allows us to do just that. New restaurant, Bowery will open soon in former Garageland space

A little over a year ago, Chef Todd Andrews began an extensive renovation of a space along Riverside in Downtown Spokane, with the goal of opening a new restaurant there. Last used as the now defunct Garageland, the building, which was built in 1914 and needed significant work. But flash forward to today and we're hearing said work is nearing completion and that new restaurant is now just weeks away from becoming a reality.

Located at 230 W. Riverside, the new restaurant will be called Bowery is to open possibly as early as the middle of next month. I'm told they have done what they could to keep the nuance of the historic building that's been home to a number of different businesses in its storied 100+ year history. The space is also in a great location, only a short distance from the University District and nearby some of the east side of Downtown's newest multi-family housing developments.

Chef Andrews tells us by email that Bowery will have a menu serving French inspired Inland Northwest cuisine. "We will have coffee and pastries weekday mornings, brunch on weekends, full-service dinner 7 nights a week". Bowery will also offer beer, wine and cocktails all led by Chef Andrews, a Seattle native who has worked in restaurants in Seattle and New York City.

Architectural work for the new restaurant was done locally by Indigo Diggs Architecture. According to building permit data the renovation project came in at an estimated $200,000. To my knowledge there isn't a website for Bowery just yet but information about the restaurant and their progress can be found on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/boweryspokane/

Uoni Bubble Tea & Coffee opening soon in the Logan neighborhood

 A new locally owned and operated business serving bubble tea, coffee and taiyaki is coming soon to the Logan Neighborhood. Uoni Bubble Tea & Coffee is working to open at 1217 N. Hamilton, located close by the Gonzaga University campus in a space that was last used as VR arcade business and a Starbucks before that.

The new cafe is tentatively planning to open sometime in early May. They plan to offer a variety of hand shaken bubble milk teas, tea lattes, coffee and taiyaki. Taiyaki is a Japanese fish shaped pastry that is filled with a verity of sweet fillings, and this will be first place to open in Spokane with the item on their menu.

The owners also tell us that the bubble tea menu at Uoni will feature a mix of traditional Asian flavors such as Ube, as well as well-known classics such as chocolate and brown sugar. Dairy free options, tea slushies/smoothies, toppings and more will also be included.

Lego resale shop, Brick Buy Brick opening soon in the Garland District

 

A new locally owned and operated, Lego resale shop is planning to open in Spokane's Garland District later this month. The shop called Brick Buy Brick will open in the storefront at 3915 N. Monroe, across from the Garland Theater on April 29th with a grand opening event planned to be held from 11-7 that day.

During the grand opening the business will host games to play, a gift for the first 100 people in line and possibly more. The shop will be buy, sell and trade of all Lego products and is currently the only such shop in the area. A space in the new store will also be made available for birthdays and other party rentals.
