After 40 years Mel's Nursery in North Spokane will close.

After 40 years in business , Mel's Nursery , will close it's doors for good this September. Mel's has been somewhat of a fixture in the Spokane area beginning as little more then a small fruit stand out front of a local drive in movie theater in the 1970's. Today Mel's is much larger with a sizable retail store and on site greenhouses.

Mel's Nursery has not yet announced a last day however the closure will occur sometime in September. A going out of business sale of any kind has also yet to be announced however that is assumed to be coming in the near future.

Mel's Nursery is completely locally owned and operated and has been in their current location since 1983. The reason for the closure is because the land the business sits on was sold to the businesses long time neighbor Wendle Motors. No word as of yet as to what Wendle plans to do with the property.

The Nursery owner, Sue Nimmer Shaw says closing the business was a bittersweet business decision and just another chapter in her life. Opening a new " mini- Mel's " is also not out of the realm of possibilities.

Mel's Nursery is located at 8800 N. Division St nearby The Y in North Spokane.
