Sandpoint's new Sand Creek Byway now open

After a few years of on going road construction and dealing with some opposition from local residents, a new vital link around the North Idaho City of Sandpoint is now complete and open to traffic. The new road is a 2+ mile long bypass of Sandpoint for travelers on Us Hwy 95 and will one day link into the Idaho Transportation Department's plans to create a 4 lane highway for US 95 from Coeur d' Alene north all the way to the border with Canada,Another section of that new freeway is under construction now from Hayden to Athol in the Silverwood Theme Park area.

The new Sandpoint bypass is called the Sand Creek Byway because it parallel's Sand Creek and Lake Pond Orelle to the east of Downtown Sandpoint and then re-joins the original highway north of Sandpoint just south of Bonner Mall in the small town of Ponderay. The Sand Creek Byway also includes a bicycle / hiking trail to the west of the main roadway which should open on a close date to the Byway opening. The Sand Creek Byway has been on the state's largest road projects and has been an item of discussion for decades to reduce the truck traffic,etc... from Sandpoint's downtown streets.
