KYRO'S new Frontier Ice Arena almost ready

For the last couple of years sports in Coeur d' Alene has been missing something...a Ice Arena. The former KYRO Arena was forced to close after a major snowstorm caused the roof to collapse directly over the ice rink, that building had to be torn down. But since then Coeur d' Alene's Hockey backers have put all their time and efforts into rebuilding and later this summer, perhaps even next month the new arena will officially open.

The new Coeur d' Alene Ice Arena which is now called Frontier Arena to reflect a large donation from the telephone company,Frontier is located only about 1000 feet or to the west of the original site along Seltice Way nearby the Riverstone and Mill River Developments. The new arena will actually still use the same parking lot the orginal did with the new addition of lighted Centennial Trail Parking.

The new arena comes with a price tag of 2.8 million dollars,of which some was paid in insurance from the former building's collapse. The Frontier Arena will feature 1 NHL size ice rink, 5 locker rooms, Stadium Seating, Concessions on site and a heated lobby area. KYRO's website also calls for future plans to include a second ice rink but that is in the future.
