Sportsman's Warehouse to re-open in Spokane

The list of Spokane area sporting goods stores will soon grow by one. And this one is new to the Spokane market , but should be a easy to recognize because they've been here before.

Sportsman's Warehouse is a Utah based sporting goods chain specializing in outdoor needs like camping, hunting and fishing merchandise along side firearms and many other items. The chain had a store in Spokane Valley next to Spokane Valley Mall as well as in Coeur d' Alene until just a few years ago when the local area stores we're absorbed by Canadian based chain, Wholesale Sports. Wholesale Sports moved the store to Northtown Mall before finally closing altogether last year.

But now Sportsman's Warehouse is planning to re-enter the Spokane market with a new store that will fill an abandoned building in North Spokane. Sportsman's Warehouse has filed early permitting paperwork with the City of Spokane to open a new store at 6720 N. Division nearby Lowe's. The new building will complete construction / expand an abandoned commercial building already on the site.

The new store will have about 36,000 square feet and employ close to 50. The site will include creation of a new parking area for the store. Because of the earliness in the new store's planning there is no opening date as of yet.

The site also has a size able amount of surplus vacant land but there is no mention of any other plans/ tenants for the remainder of the site or the former Lowe's big box to the north ( Lowe's has since built a new store, still in the immediate area ). I have heard a rumor of a Trader Joe's also coming on the site, but that is still only a rumor.

The Sportsman's Warehouse chain has been expanding ever since coming out of bankruptcy in 2009. The chain operates in 18 states, including Alaska and has stores in our region in Lewiston and the Tri-Cities.
