SQM Group to open call center in Coeur d' Alene

SQM Group (SQM stands for Service Quaility Measurement) , a company based in Vernon, British Columbia,Canada has announced plans to open a new call center in Coeur d' Alene at the office building the had formerly housed a call center for the telephone/broadband company Frontier until late last year when Frontier closed and moved to another location elsewhere in the United States.

SQM Group places calls on behalf of over 450 different clients and offers a survey to better detrermine the clients own customer service and better pin point any issues with the clients own call centers. SQM represents some major clients such as US Bank, Capital One, Marriott,etc...

The new call center will go into the CdA Tech Park building at 7400 N. Mineral Dr. behind Best Buy on the north side of Coeur d' Alene. The new center is expected to open in the spring and will bring 80 new jobs to Coeur d' Alene. Jobs with the new Coeur d' Alene SQM Group office will pay 12.00 an hour and will have benfits such as health insurance.

  1. Here is a recent Letter to the Editor that the Coeur d'Alene Press refused to print about SQM. This comes from a recent former management employee specifically hired for the new center:

SQM Group Inc. - Nothing more than broken promises

When I read all the news about Canadian firm SQM Group expanding into Coeur d'Alene in January, I was impressed and welcomed them into our community for the local jobs they were bringing. When they recruited me to be their new call center facility's managing Network Administrator, I was excited to be able to work with them for Idahoans. The mantra from their owner Mike Desmarais was that they prided themselves in their employee retention rates and in taking care of their people.

Now 7 weeks later, I have seen under the veil and now find myself suddenly laid off and back on the unemployment rolls again. It seems that the leadership of SQM doesn't care about who they step on along the way, or what promises they break.

For all his talk of local commitment, and taking care of their employees, Mike Desmarais and company are nothing more than greedy, heartless, robber-barons. They seduce you with promises of "longevity and job security" but as I found out after I successfully managed the build of their new call center's infrastructure for them, (because their first choice of bringing Canadians down for the job was too expensive), you become suddenly expendable. Profits before emmployees and their families is really their mantra.

Thank you SQM for your broken promises to your new American employees.

Idaho doesn't need more of SQM's kind of "employment opportunities". I hope Senators Risch, Crapo, and Blue Cross Blue Shield take notice before they attend SQM's grand opening in April, and invite Mike Desmarais and his brand of "business ethics" to go back to Canada.
