Hotel Ruby owner buys 2nd Downtown hotel, has big plans

Well known local developer Jerry Dicker has purchased another hotel in Downtown Spokane. Dicker, who owns and operates GVD Commercial Properties,Inc. is the owner of the Hotel Ruby which is also Downtown only blocks from this newly acquired hotel property.

Dicker, has agreed to pay $2.4 million to acquire the Ramada Inn at 123 S. Post St in the southern section of Downtown Spokane. The Ramada property will now undergo a full remodel and property update with the hotel scheduled to leave the Ramada system and become a Howard Johnson Express hotel.

The remodeling will be extensive with new décor , furnishing , beds and flooring. The exterior will also re-painted. The new property will be run under Mr. Dicker's GVD Hospitality Management Services, which also is the parent company behind the Hotel Ruby.

The Hotel Ruby is hip style , locally owned and operated hotel with a motor inn look at the corner of 1st Ave and Lincoln  ( 901 W. 1st Ave. ) . That hotel was formerly a Rodeway Inn until it too was purchased and re-done into the more modern styling just a couple of years ago. Hotel Ruby is also home to a bar called the Sapphire Lounge. There is no mention of adding anything like a bar or restaurant into the former Ramada Inn Property.

The Ramada property will join one other Spokane / Coeur d' Alene market Howard Johnson franchise hotel. That location is owned by another party and is located on N. Division St at the base of the Division St. hill. A Post Falls Howard Johnson dropped the Howard Johnson affiliation about 2 years ago and now operates as part of the Fairbridge Inn hotel chain.
