Coeur d' Alene Summer Theater to close.

The final curtain call for the 2013 season at the Coeur d' Alene Summer Theater will be it's lasts as the community theater announced today that they plan to disband the well known local organization.

The Coeur d' Alene Summer Theater group has been a large part of the Coeur d' Alene community during the groups 45 season run. The group operated with a partnership with North Idaho College to put on plays, musicals and other theater events at the college's campus and in recent years many of those events have drawn large crowds.

But the 2013 summer season wasn't quite as successful with a 40 percent reduction in ticket sales and a budget shortfall of $150,000 . A fundraising effort was launched to make up the shortfall. But despite the highly successful fundraising efforts raising almost $60,000 in only 2 weeks , the non-profit group's board of directors voted to close and disband.

The group's board of directors does hope to one day in the future be able to re-incarnate the group with a new business plan and new ideas should the need re-arise in the community.

Since the Coeur d' Alene Summer Theater is a non-profit organization the job cuts are minimal from this closure. However both the executive director and the artistic director positions will both be let go.
